Something I like about this moment and about how Hal is written is general is that he can go from goofy, childish sitcom dad antics to completely lucid and emotionally intelligent at the drop of a hat if the situation calls for it. He doesn’t lose his sense of humor, but he’s very good about knowing when to apply it. That’s how he stands out from other sitcom dads of the time, his character flaws don’t come from thoughtlessness and ego, they come from his insecurity and general anxiety, and that’s way more entertaining to watch.

I always thought that loving your partner more than he/she loves you was a problem, but this scene showed me it doesn't need to be.

What I love about this show is there multiple moments just like this where a character will finally admit their feelings out loud, feelings that everybody has but nobody ever admits cuz they seem terrible, and you expect the other characters to be shocked or hurt, but instead they react as though it was blatantly obvious, and the issue was only ever admitting the truth to themselves.

this honestly is almost making me teary because I had the same type of convo with my current boyfriend in the beginning of our relationship and I remember being so stressed and worried about it and funny enough he actually kinda quoted from Hal or at least mentioned this scene and that's when it genuinely helped click things for me. this show was so amazing!

This plays into Hal's personality. When he's obsessed with someone or something he gives his all, he's even aware of it. Everything else doesn't matter, just that 1 thing. In this case, Lois will always be the one he loves most.
