After the "loading startup options" my mac just back to loading like the start, and if I do nothing it just keeps restarting, any suggestion? It doesn't get to the options part

I chose my iMac's system drive– Macintosh HD and erased it, and the plan was to reinstall macOS. But every time I tried to install it, it would just say "An error occurred while preparing the installation. Try running this application again". And I tried multiple times. So I just gave up on that and tried to get the Mac to turn back on. When I tried, it said to choose a startup disk, but there were no options. So I went back to disk utility and on the disk I had erased, clicked "restore". Then when going back to "Choose a Startup Disk", there was an option so I selected that. I thought I was out of the woods, but now I have been stuck on the loading bar. It's reached the end and looks to be full, but has been like that for 20+ minutes. I don't want to restart the computer cause I assume that will undo the progress of the startup disk situation. What do I do? ):
