my sister bought m1 air. I borrowed it for 1 week for rust development. The compilation time is so good, I love it. My Lenovo i5 takes about 3-4 mins for incremental builds while m1 takes around 20-30 seconds. I'll buy the next generation for myself, and I'll wait till full Linux support has arrived. Gentoo users are going to be so happy.

I've had the M2 MBP 13" for a week now. It is absolutely the best, most comfortable laptop I've ever had. And I've had a few. I am a 65 yo retired physicist.

It's all true. Every bit of it. Switched to this machine for video editing and have loved every minute of it. Agreed with the fans. I am in super HOT environment. No AC and while the fan does turn on 100+ degree temps when working with FCP or transcoding media...way better than other Macs that turn fans on from the start screen. It is a "cold" machine. Great review.

I'm one of those anti apple people. But I'm a techy all about the performance. And thus, the M1 is the ONLY time I have been considering apple. Ever.

The MacBook Pro has been a great machine for me, never had my fans turn on since I bought it. One issue I had is with the WiFi connectivity, which was easily fixed with a reboot. I still need to drag my windows PC around to run certain programs but I’m really hopeful that more apps will get a ARM version and Windows on ARM will be finally fully backwards compatible with x86. Most shortcuts in MacOS are easy to reach and to remember, and spotlight search is so much better than the Windows search tool. I was worried I wouldn’t know how to navigate MacOS but it has been very user friendly.

I got m1 pro for my ux design work. The amount of projects and apps I can keep open and work comfortably is insane!

It’s truly awesome. Thought the RAM limit would be an issue but the swap memory design is almost flawless for most heavy sessions. Integrates nicely with my Apple products and the fact that I never hear it or feel the heat. I don’t think it’s went past 83 degrees since I’ve used it. Excited for what Apple does with the chipset moving forward.

As for heat, i left it in my car when I shouldn't have and I don't want to know how hot that thing got but as soon as I turned it on the fan went crazy and cooled it down to ice cold in under 2 minutes. I was impressed

I have 1 week in with MBA M1 8Gb.
As an amateur programmer it's been a great device for React Native development, only getting warmer whenever I'm running an emulator for Android or iOS.
With M1 I haven't had the need to take a charger with me for the day when programming at school.

This channel rocks, it's like a lifestyle/coding video that makes for light but usually informative viewing. Hits a good spot. Keep it up, the subs will just keep coming.

@Hallden please tell me, do you have any dents/pits/micro-hols on you display? I had some after about 6 months of use. I did recently got my display replaced under warranty. I read that many people experience this despite being so protective with the device and some even had the same thing happened on the replaced display too. Even if not advised, I'm considering putting a film screen protector. What do you think? Thank you!

I just got this laptop a couple of months ago. I've owned several MacBook Pros as well as a couple of MacBook Airs over the years and this one, by far, is definitely the most impressive.

Is the laptop at 1:58 a 16inch or 13inch? Judging by the space for the speaker grids it looks more like 16 inch....

Good review but you didn’t mentioned one of the biggest down side of the M1. It doesn’t support dual monitors natively. Which docking station are you using in order to have it working with your dual monitors set up? Cheers!

So, what’s the catch? M1 mbp is much cheaper than old mbp but has strong specs and maybe even better performance?

It's a good practice to fully reboot sometimes, maybe twice in a week, or at least once. The operating system will reorganize a lot stuff and make your OS run smoother and more reliable.

On the note of Python libraries, there are a few that need AVX instruction sets to compile or run, and Rosetta does not support AVX. So if you need libs that use AVX, you might want to hold off to see if they get a native version or if Apple will add support for AVX instruction sets.
