Stop Buying These Gaming PC's on Amazon
Over the years I have seen the trend growing and growing with more and more people selling old hardware as new gaming pc and around $699. The price point is perfect for people who are gullible or not tech savvy. These computer sellers are scammers and are after selling really old hardware in a new case and sell it as a gaming pc, No information about the hardware is ever listed, so you are buying blind. Don't but them.

Knowledge is king here.
This has been the nature of the pre-built PC market for quite a while. I've never purchased a pre-built PC. Mostly due to all the misleading advertisements that litter the marketplace, it's difficult for "average consumers" to navigate these adds with any confidence.
Thanks Brian.

I sympathise with anyone caught out buying one of these PC's. If your on a limited budget or in a bind its easy to be swept up in all the fancy photo's and strings of 'bells and whistles' in the description. I nearly was. Simply because I didn't know any better and I'm an ordinary Joe not a tech wizz. I'm a little better now after turning my back on this route and building my own PC. But its not for everyone. My advise is seek help from a trusted source. Most places ( at least in the UK ) have computer clubs and welcome new members. There you'll get all the help you need from folk only to pleased to help. Great video Brian. Keep on exposing the PC Pirates 😃😃

My advice to anyone considering buying a PC for gaming is, don't. Instead build it for yourself at least once. That way you have an appreciation of how it all goes together and the satisfaction of building it yourself. You won't save yourself much if any money these days unlike a few years ago so budget accordingly.

Thanks for your explaining this scam PC that isn't worth the cash and will not update to Windows 11.

I wish Amazon and Ebay would not allow these to be sold. Shame on them.

Hello Brian. I wasn't always tech savy until I started watching your videos on this subject and I have learnt a great deal from them. I have bought a couple cheap dells in the past, but not since watching your videos. Instead I built two of my own and they work much better than the dells. Thank you.

I've built close to 400 computers between now and 1998, many of them with custom loops. No way would I ever touch a pre-built. I do build computers for people in my local area, but I make sure they know exactly what they're getting and I only charge Parts + 5%.

Amazon and eBay should require sellers to state when a computer contains re-used or very old parts.

It is really shocking. Im sort of tech savey myself. I always build my own PC now. Im on my 3rd build. Ive never ever bought a prebuild in my life of having a PC apart from getting given my dads old Compaq Presario desktop back in 2005 and worked my way up since then.

I appreciate your video. I heard this a while back but it was about a tablet so you know this happens across many devices. They got me with my last gaming laptop with the RGB keyboard and price point. It was an HP Omen and when it broke for the life of me I couldn't find the information on what motherboard they used because I was trying to repair it. I searched the internet and many forums. It didn't say on HP's website or anywhere on the computer it self. Now I know when they're hiding something it more than likely is always bad.

There's something that should be mentioned:
•The gaming performance of the GT 710, GT 730, GTX 650, or GT 1030 are actually bad by modern standards. I'll guarantee if you try to play something like Cyberpunk 2077 or Hogwarts Legacy, the game will either not load (as seen when Major Hardware tried to run Battlefield 2042 on the ViprTech) or if it does run, it will likely run very slow that it's unplayable.
•Some PCs may even run Windows 10 on the hard drive which is going to result poor Windows performance.
•The Wi-Fi adapter that sellers include are often one on small no-name adapters which are known to be problematic compared to name brands and these small adapters may not work well with slow/weak connections. Additionally, most sellers as well as ViprTech and STGAubron include 802.11n which is very slow by modern standards compared to AC or AX. The 11n 2.4GHz is a problem because the highest network speed is determined by the slowest connection (in this case, the Wi-Fi adapter) and many games are very large which is going to take forever downloading games. The performance of the 2.4 GHz may affect networking performance if playing online multiplayer games.
•The keyboard and mice included are often one of those cheap Chinese no-name "gaming" keyboards/mice which are literal garbage (or rubbish) compared to name brand gaming hardware and the same is true for headsets such as the BENGOO G9000. These things will probably fail or start to have issues within a few months. Additionally, the mice may have issues with fast movement (often seen in shooters) where the view/camera doesn't turn or look up/down and could possibly scratch your mousepad, and the keyboards may have key fade issues and tend to sometimes use wrong shaped Enter keys.

Good point about the sellers not mentioning the processor (all manufacturers except Apple mention the model). The sellers usually don't mention what brand/manufacturer or model of the Wi-Fi adapter and what Wi-Fi connection they're using.

i got a gaming computer for $60 a year ago because the computer i had the motherboard was dying. when i got it had a i5 4670 8gb ram 500gb hd 660ti. now it has i5 4670 16gb ram 512gb ssd 1.5tb hd with a 750ti. all but the ram i had in my dying computer and the reason the motherboard was dying i had the power supply go out then got a new one. found out my motherboard usb's wouldn't work after the power supply went out so found this computer that was locked cheap. took it home wiped the hd put everything from my old computer into this one including the new power supply. i did spend a day or 2 $100 for another computer off ebay with 16gb of ram so when it came in took out 8gb ram to put into this computer then put the 660ti into it with the 550w power supply this one came with then turned around and sold it for 180 as a entry level gaming computer. so i made $20 with the parts from this computer put into another computer

Heh, he talked about the i5-2500K being ancient. Mine from 2012 is still quick enough to play the AAA's I like. The key is the graphics card...I've upgraded my graphics three times, added RAM, SSD's, but then when I built the PC I planned for the future. The next thing I'll probably do is add an NVME adapter in a PCI slot, but I just haven't felt the need yet.

Great video though!

Good video Brian about time someone has brought this sort info to the average user especially when the deal looks too good to be true. To be honest anyone with an iota of knowledge would see that things such as the processor are themselves are expensive items let alone the final cost of the machine being what it is.

The main thing is that these PCs have a lot of glowing stuff and an Nvidia GPU installed, then there is always someone who will buy it... PC+mouse+keyboard+ mousepad for everything together a little over 500 = something is definitely be wrong here, there is nothing really good about it... life experience tells you that.

But this is not only the case with Amazon. One should be skeptical everywhere and inform oneself well beforehand, even with well-known manufactorers. My girlfriend bought a complete 1, 300 EURO Acer gaming PC + Acer Predator 24" 1080 HD Monitor + mouse + keyboard with an RTX 2060 and this box is complete junk, e.g. all fans are constantly running at maximum speed and the box is loud and heats the whole room ... playing PC games has become a new adventure for her.
After extensive research, I put together the individual good components of my "silent" gaming PC and only had them assembled by a professional supplier and this PC is great and I enjoy it every day ... top current games run flawlessly even with high graphics settings, that's the way it should be ... but of course it wasn't a bargain either ... and I could do without completely useless flashing RGB either.

That's as bad as those old Dell Opitplex business class computers that are being resold as gaming PCs after they slap some sparkly paint on the case.
