When I was a kid trying to upgrade my pc I pretty much flattened like 20 pins in the corner my Athlon 64. Fortunately my mother is a jeweller with a workshop full of fine silversmithing tools, she straightened every single pin and the CPU worked!

The cables not being standard is an absurdly stupid feat of laziness and “brand lock out” in the electronics industry.

Had put a cpu water cooler above my 4070, a gasket leaked in it when the system purged and ruined my gpu, PSU, M.2, wasn’t happy.

Always use the cables that came with the PSU. Never from other PSU's.

The moment I heard "pre-routed power cables" I knew exactly where this was going and I felt myself die inside.

You saved my entire system, I ordered a new psu for future upgrades and it’s coming in tomorrow. Was definitely not planning on replacing every cable, crazy how life just throws a tip at you for not messing up

Same issue as in the video, but slightly deeper... NEVER re-use power cables that didn't come with your specific PSU. I bought the exact same PSU 3 years apart, same exact model but newer. Thankfully I did not fry my PC, but my PC would not turn on and I turned it back off quickly to troubleshoot after the PSU swap. Swapped cables to my mobo for the new PSU's cables and problem was solved... some small change over the years..

New PC builder here. I didn't properly look at the AM5 brackets for my AIO so I tried putting them oppositely and upside down. Ended up bending them to the point where I needed to screw the AIO to the bracket and then to the motherboard. I can only assume the boatload of paste I applied is what's keeping my temps low regardless.

Very thankful that this was the most expensive mistake I made.

These are the kinds of shorts we need, no telling how many peoples' systems you saved in the future by sharing this.

I forced a cable into a slot where it wasnt supposed to go when doing an IT apprenticeship. White smoke and a beep was shared with the class and a teacher shouting turn it off 😂

Early on in high school, my PSU's fuse broke. So I soldered a paperclip in its place. Parents, make sure you put smoke detectors in your kid's room.

Well.. when i build my first PC just a few months ago, i fried my CPU (i7 14700k), motherboard (MSI PRO B760M) and PSU because i messed up mounting the mobo on the case. I placed a screw wrong and made contact with the back of the motherboard (exacty on a spot where it should be no contact at all) and after 2-3 hours of finishing rhe build, while installing the drives and what no, it went off. Luckily the GPU, ram and storage weren't affected
