This video is all about using other artist's work as reference for your own work. It's a fine line between inluence and stealing, and I want to show you how you can take from your favorite artists and make it your own in order to help you develop much faster as an artist.

Thanks so much for watching! If you enjoyed, please hit like and subscribe, and share with your friends.

I love the ideas in here. Very much a Bruce Lee approach to comic book art 'absorb what is useful, discard what isn't, add what is uniquely your own.' It's also very reassuring to see that someone of David Finch's level still looks to other artists for inspiration.

“Good artists copy great artists steal”. Steve Jobs quoting Pablo Picasso 😂 💕🐔👍💕

5:20 It looks similar but still noticeably different, like in-between frames compared to a key frame.

Thanks for setting us free to reference other artists. First I see Jim Lee erase. Now Dave Finch lets me reference artist I like. Freedom.

Ive been practicing this in recent artworks and its a great method to learn but still feel secure with my drawings. Cool to have you make a video on this technique!

I like vids like this. While I am an artist, I can always learn something plus I like comics and it's art so learning and seeing the art is dope.

I truly love how your artwork has evolved. In the beginning, your characters had similar vibes, looks and structure. These days, brother, you’ve evolved into one of the rock gods of comic book art! Thanks so much for the work, the content, the videos

I've always used reference this way but it really bugged me the idea of having a Frankenstein of various artists. This video gives me more confidence to keep pursuing art the way I do!

Excelente explicação, é a primeira vez que vejo alguém ensinar algo tão útil para quem está começando nos desenhos de personagens. Thanks Dave!

Thanks David, what a great idea! Recently a friend and I have being going back through our old copy of How To Draw Comics The Marvel Way, and re-sketching the characters but with the modern costumes. Lots of fun, but your method is next level!
