In this video, I will show you how to prevent your IP cameras from accessing the internet, isolate them, and still have access to them when I am away. With all the recent discussions on systems like Eufy and many other cameras connecting to cloud servers, I will go through how I have secured my cameras and hope it helps you.

Instead of accessing my cameras from outside the house, I have the my Synology NAS sync the JPGs to a free Google drive account. The files are small and take up very little space. If the JPG's show that something is amiss at home, then I can Tailscale in and take a look at the video files.

One problem that I have with home networks is that, as you say, there can be multiple ways of accomplishing a given task ( like blocking the cameras ) but it's keeping track of what you did 6 months ago that gets frustrating. I use Excel to track all this stuff and even that is not a perfect solution. I thought that I blocked my Reolink cameras from internet access but now I can't find out where I did it. So, I've created a router firewall rule.

Thanks for another really great video.

Hi Mike, love your videos. Super helpful and very easy to follow!

I did have a question about adding an NTP server/port exception after restricting internet access to my cameras. In Unifi, I added a rule - Internet Out/Accept/UDP, Source: Network/My Cam Vlan, Destination: IP Address (google NTP ip), Port 123. The rule is after the drop rule. I also added the google NTP in the Reolink settings for my NVR. Unfortunately, it always fails to sync. When I pause the rule that restricts internet access to my cams it works fine. Any suggestions?

@MikeFaucher - I noticed you had the 'Triggers' section in your UDMP System Log section, how do you enable that to see FW rule hits ?

Can this be setup within Asus wifi router? To block cameras from going out, but still access them externally?
