One McLab Meal, please!

Dutch scientists have created strips of muscle tissue using stem cells and, focusing on what's important in life, also plan to grow an artificial hamburger by the end of the year.

Professor Mark Post told the BBC that his team's goal is to reduce the environmental footprint of meat and to prove that the process has the potential to be practical and economically viable. He believes that synthetic meat could be produced over three times as efficiently as regular meat, which currently requires 100 grams of food to create 15 grams of meat.

But ... what will it taste like? In a word: bland. Post believes they'll need to work separately to figure out which components in meat produce its taste and then replicate that, too. He'd like to use celebrity chef Heston Blumenthal to cook the inaugural burger, but it sounds like it might have to come with extra ketchup.

i don't see a problem when this type of research could solve food shortage.

because the human technology is so advanced that we can go on and research the molecular structure and investigate what makes a certain structure of certain molecules "good tasting" and what makes a certain structure of certain molecules "bad tasting"

@thatdinho Maybe to cover the bland taste of this "lab meat" ?

oh yea that is true tho, but i'd imagine it would be very difficult and time consuming to go and replicate these "burgers" since just 1 takes like a month to make, probably not gonna be for public use for a loong time.

do you remember the day when meat was grown on animals? When I was a kid...

I wonder what will happen in long term trials to validate the side-effects. Can't see it being more dangerous than a doner kebab at my local take-away though, it's more humane to animals and it should be better for the environment

The male majority?
The male majority is hispanic I think, possibly black but I know for a fact that the male majority isn't white.
Although that's assuming your comment makes any sense.
