I’ve read that a good question to ask in an interview “is there anything that concerns you about my resume or experience that I can address right now?” I’ve used it twice, and gotten both jobs!

I had an interview with the employer and an employee and the employer left the room to go get something and the employee literally told me to turn down the job because its a lot of work for shit pay and that she was looking for a new job too. We stayed friends after that

"This company is more like a family than co-workers" Stop that. Its a job. Next you hear is "As a family we expect you to do (not part of your contract here)"

When interviwing for a job, remember; the interview goes _both_ ways.

red flag: when ever "flexible hours" is advertised as a perk for the company. what it actually means is you're either going to get 6 hours a week or you're expected to have 24/7 availability. along with that it usually means that if you ever change your availability or don't take a shift when offered your hours are getting cut drastically.

When they mention at the job application, that you need to 'work well under pressure'. Huge red flag. They are looking for someone to do 3 person's jobs.

I interviewed for a small startup. They showed me their amazing office - ping pong table, sauna, fridge full of free Vitamin Water, yoga room etc. I was impressed! Until we discussed salary and the CEO says "Since we're just a small startup we cant pay you as much as others in the field." Thanks, but any startup that spends their money on "cool digs" instead of paying professionals are a big nope for me.

Them: "we don't like clock-watchers here"
Also them: pays hourly

I applied for a management position. They asked if I was comfortable working beyond my scheduled hours. As it was an hourly position, I told them that as long as I was being paid for it, and got 10 hours before my next shift, I was fine.
They paused and stated that they couldn't guarantee that overtime would be paid. This wasn't the red flag. In my previous industry, unpaid overtime happened plenty.
The red flag came when they replied, "And personally, why would you expect to be paid after your shift ended?"

I’ve not done many interviews but I know that when a company says that they are “one big family” it just means that they feel it’s appropriate to invade your personal life

I had a boss who took my overtime away, then wondered why I stopped doing any. He came up to me with a job just before I was due to go home, then as I was about to clock out he asked "So that's it, 2 o'clock and you stop work and clock out?" Well yeah, as you stop paying me pretty promptly at 2, so yeah, I'm stopping work and going home

Not only was I not allowed to sit when I was a server, we weren’t allowed to lean on a wall or counter. “If you have time to lean, you have time to clean” - all of our managers.

The worst part about the whole "If you feel like you've done enough work for today" is that it _never_ swings the other way. Why can't I leave at 4 or even earlier if I feel like I've gotten a day's worth of work done?

I used to do the hiring at a place where I was a manager. I actually tried to hire people who gave me certain things to work around like "oh I can't work Wednesdays because of something else". It was great to hear they had commitments they stuck to. I never understood people who didn't like when workers gave hours to work around...

Around here, in Chile, we have the “chair law” which determines that every worker has to have a chair to sit on during their shifts. I can’t believe you guys can’t sit down!

“We don’t like clock watchers here” is always one way too. If you finished load of work early you can bet those same employers wouldn’t be happy about you leaving half an hour early.

My "favorite" is when you apply for a job, go to the interview, find out the job you applied for doesn't actually exist, and realize it was a bait and switch to get you to into some other position. Good times.

Red flag: "i'm the one asking the questions"
An interview is a two way matching process. The only correct response is "in that case the interview's over and i withdraw my application
