In the paper she's referring to, Romans actually did have a consistent genetic profile that corresponded with the Italian peninsula and its tribes. This changes and starts to adopt a MENA shift in the Imperial era then it changes back to being genetically European again after predominantly _Germanic_ tribes (she says 'Hungarians' because she misunderstood what she was reading) invade Italy. I don't know if there's ever been a comprehensive study done to ascertain _just_ how Roman modern Italians actually are, as the paper she's referring to primarily deals with Central Italy and the background of Etruscans. In any case it's weird how she tries to mitigate Rome as a whole because of what was ostensibly the result of an edict that was made law in the 3rd Century (again, something the paper mentions). Rome DID exist and was created by Italics, then those Italics were altered by genetic flow from two separate migration events. Modern Italians still very much have Roman DNA, just less than they used to. Of course, weirdos like her read one paper by a bunch of names with PhDs next to them and suddenly she adopts the most all or nothing stance on the matter. It's frankly for this reason that somewhat elitist academics used to only share this sort of data amongst themselves.

The Italians were Italian. They were an indo-European tribe that arrived in central Italy via the sea. It’s why they’re distinct from the people that populated the northern third of the peninsula including the etruscans and celts. Hell, if there’s anything we aren’t sure of, it’s where did the Etruscans come from since their language group is essentially alien. And in fact, the genetics do not agree with her. The Italian people are still surprisingly italic/Roman.

Her knowledge of history is truly appalling because the Romans had a lot contacts with the Etruscans since the beginning, when it was a little village not to mention the contacts they had with many people in the neighbourhood. Finally digging here and there, there was many Etruscan constructions like the The Cloaca Maxima was one of the world's earliest sewage systems built around 600 bc! Is she drinking?
