0:00 – Prologue
New Jersey and New York have been at war for the title of the best state for the last 300 years and it isn’t going to stop anytime soon. We think it’s clear that New Jersey is the better state but the reasons why it claims that title might surprise you...

0:16 – Rent is Cheaper
The Big Apple is known for paying higher salaries but those higher salaries are eaten up in one big bite by the high costs of living there, like rent. Jersey folks like to have the best of both worlds, cheaper rent and more money on their paycheck.

1:18 – Bizarre Gas Laws
New Jersey’s Retail Dispensing Act law is still in effect today and we think it’s priceless – further fueling the fact that Jersey tops off New York.

2:00 – $65 Billion Gardens
You don’t hear New York being called the Garden State, but New Jersey is. It all began back when the Attorney General of New Jersey dubbed the name because he said it was like a barrel of good things – open at both ends with Pennsylvania grabbing from one end and New Yorkers from the other.

2:40 – 200 Year Food Wars
In a contest earlier this year, the two states’ pizzas went head to head to see which one had a better crust. New York pizza was pliable which was attributed to the city’s water. Yuck! New Jersey pies had a nice, slight crackle when folded over – tasteful evidence of being baked in a stone oven.

3:28 – Friendly Inhabitants (Not NYC)
From quaint mom and pop shops to fine restaurants, New Jerseyans welcome your business and…it shows. Anyone saying that New York is just as friendly obviously hasn’t been there.

3:56 – New York's Bad Report Card
New York, on the other hand, is currently rated one of the worst places to raise kids. Finding childcare is a tough task and if that doesn’t break you, paying for it will. Although school taxes are astronomical, Upstate schools get some of the worst report cards in the U.S.

4:41 – New York's Filthy Beaches
When it comes to sink or swim in the war between the states, the Jersey beaches win, wave after wave, while the New York shoreline is simply a dive straight to the bottom.

5:35 – The Sales Tax
New York is called the Empire State and the empire continues to be built, one shirt and one shoe at a time. It’s no sweat off their back though, it’s all on you. We find New York to be taxing while New Jersey is a bit more *pause* relaxing.

6:17 – Safety & Crime
When it comes to choosing between the two states, we’re calling it safe in favor of the Garden State because living in New York is just a crime waiting to happen.

7:12 – Overall Affordability
New Jersey has affordable housing – averaging $194 per square foot while New York City is sky high at $590. Mass transit in New Jersey makes commuting cheap and easily takes you all around the Garden State or on over to New York.

8:09 – Why Texas Beats California
You'll wanna check out this video detailing the top 10 reasons Texas is better than California.

I was born and raised in NJ. You get away from the NYC area (Newark, Jersey City, Paterson, etc) the Philly suburbs (Camden), Atlantic City, and Trenton, NJ is actually pretty nice in most places.

Yeah, it’s most of the bigger cities in NJ (and the gross industrial areas) that drag the state down. By EVERY metric, NJ is better than NY..income, poverty, education, HDI, affordability, crime, life expectancy, weather, etc. The only exceptions are entertainment options and the property/income tax rate and entertainment options. (Fun Fact: NJ even has a higher HDI than Sweden)

Honestly if I had to be in the Northeast Megapolis I would go to Philly because it seems to be a cheaper NYC, so I'm glad this video is at least kinda relevant.

But Upstate NY is best in my opinion.

How does a real New Jersey Accent sound ?
Some people tell me that a Philly accent is a good depiction others tell me that it doesn't sound like a Brooklyn accent like on TV
