Janelle Monáe, “The ArchAndroid” TEN YEARS LATER - A TRUE CLASSIC!

For my eighth episode of “TEN YEARS LATER,” I’m gonna be taking a look at the debut album from Janelle Monáe, “The ArchAndroid.” Janelle Monáe is a well-renewed singer, songwriter, rapper, producer and actress who made a big splash constantly across numerous mediums in the last decade. In regards to music, Janelle’s first huge splash came with this debut studio album, which in and of itself is a follow-up to her “Metropolis: The Chase Suite” EP from 2007. That EP served as the first in Janelle’s “Metropolis” concept series centered around android Cindi Mayweather, and “The ArchAndroid” consisted of “Suite II” and “Suite III.” This record has been hailed as a classic for a very long time, and for years, I’ve heard many speak of its cultural importance and relevance, and how much of an impact it had on the afrofuturism movement. And after finally listening to it for the first time, I can see why it’s remained so popular a decade later: this album is a bonafide masterpiece!

Thanks for this video, The ArchAndroid is hands down my fav album of all time. But it should definitely be enjoyed as the trilogy along with Metropolis and Electric lady. She's a modern day musical genius !

My favorite album of all time, girl sang backwards and I ate it all up. Also that Clair de Lune sample on Say You'll Go is magical.

I think your change of not going over your favorites and least favorites at the end is a good one, but may I make a suggestion/request? If there are any standout songs in either direction, could you let us know that? You wouldn't have to do it for every album, but if once in a while you come across an outlier, that would be very interesting to know about. Just a thought, thanks!
