My opinion is if it’s authoritarian enough, it doesn’t matter if it’s left or right

Having followed Metatron for the last few years I believe this reaction is just what Chris needed to cleanse his palate after reacting to that "historian" Tucker Carlson interviewed

Ive never been a fan of putting ideologies on a line that goes left to right. In my opinion political parties and peoples opinions are far more complex than a simple left to right line ever can describe.

9:01 I'm reminded of a joke from the British sitcom 'Yes Minister' when a question was asked about the government of a country they were dealing with. One guy said this country's official name is "The People's Democratic Republic of (insert country name)".

And Sir Humphrey replies "Oh so it's a Communist dictatorship".

As my great grandma ended up in prison after WW2 (Yugoslavia) for saying: "Old thieves (Nazis) left, new ones came. " when she was asked about her opinion on government.

I’m glad you did a reaction to Metatron. I like his work because he adds a lot of nuance to historical conversations. I was very interested in your thoughts on his work. Well done as usual!

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

The single biggest mistake we have made, continue to make and will make in the future is assuming individuals and hence groups lean entirely left or entirely right. The reality is most people are not consistent from a political philosophy perspective

On religion, the opening point that Hitler or Nazism could not be Christian because it was extremely anti semitic... is that a strong argument considering the long history of anti semitism within different Christian churches, and Christian dogma being used to justify anti semitism? And the shooting of Polish priests was not because they were Christian but because they were eliminating anyone in a political or social or community leadership role. Otherwise agree on his points on religion

26:28 he brought a good point: many Polish priests were killed or threatened otherwise.

Cases in point: Maximillian Kolbe and Karol Wojtyla. Both are honored within the Catholic Church as saints.

Wojtyla had to go underground for seminary during WWII. He later became Pope John Paul II.

Kolbe continued to hear Confessions and say Mass in the concentration camp until his death in 1941.

Another well known preacher who was subject to this abuse was Dietrich Bonhoeffer. He was a prominent German Lutheran preacher during the war. He was killed at the hands of the Nazis in 1945.

I've followed metatron for a while, and that's probably why YouTube recommended your channel. I'm really enjoying your content. I have found metatron to be very rigorous, well-researched, and even handed, and I can see that you're the same way.
Looking forward to getting to know your channel better.

The points you made about wartime economies were the same thing that I commented on the original video about two weeks ago. The Nazi regime was all about war from the moment Hitler became chancellor so of course they would use their political power to recruit all the industrial power of Germany towards that goal.

It's very hard to imagine what the ideal peacetime Nazi regime would look like in terms of market freedom, because the goal was always war and conquest.

2 criticism I remember after the video are: 1) The racism thing was a bit weird and seemed deflective to say that Marx had racist beliefs therefore Communism is racist, when racism is a core element of Naziism and not of Communism.
2) goes a bit about in the same direction as his private property point: a core element of socialism is ownership of the means of production by the workers. But what does that actually mean, if they don't get to decide on any part of what is done with them? Not what is produced, who get's to work where, what is done with the profits and so on? Socialism doesn't just mean that everything is owned by the state. An absolute Monarchy is not socialist, if it doesn't allow for private property.

The entire concept of Judeo-Bolshevism disproves the Horseshoe theory. These ideologies are inherently at odds with each on the most fundamental level.

saying "it's in the name" WRT self-labeled political organizations is like saying PragerU is a real, accredited university

I do this thing sometimes watching videos with topics such as these, were I just start to ramble my own opinion to myself, then I notice I haven't been listening to the video for the entire time, then I go back. This is what happened here, and I have to say, the moment I clicked play again, you said EXACTLY what I thought: It mostly doesn't matter, because you can easily twist the answer to either side, and people mainly engage in it so they can say "They were the thing we aren't!".

One major aspect missing in the video (imho) was a look at the political landscape of Germany back then

My two Patreon subs come together. I love it. Check out his biblical content too. He’s a linguist so he goes deep into what words the Bible uses. It’s fascinating even to my non religious self.

It is not just about the U.S. being more right wing or Europe being more left wing, the political spectrum itself is different.
Let me use France as my example. In France, there are two major parties considered right wing, Les Républicains and le Rassemblement National, the former is considered in Europe a center right party, moderate conservatives so to speak, while the latter is viewed as a far right party. From an American perspective however, it is complicated. Les Républicains are in fact more in favor of small government policies than the RN is, policies like spending cuts, lower taxes, less regulation etc., the RN on the other hand is more protective of the welfare state and actually proposes ones of its own. So economically speaking (because on immigration and foreign relations, it's different), from an American perspective, Les Républicains are more "right wing".
