Someone forgets that the staples are just to hold it down taught😂

So many things being done wrong here. But here are the major ones.

1. Synthetic membrane requires capped nails. Code doesn't matter the maker requires it, it can't be stapled like #30 felt.

2. You ONLY nail/staple underlayment it where the walls meet the roof to hold it taunt. You should NOT be nailing or stapling in the middle of the roof deck.

#2 is a huge no no not just because of all the additional pointless perforations being made but the felt or membrane will tear itself apart with thermal expansion cycles being so affixed to the roof sheathing.

We don't staple in the field of the paper only tops and bottoms. You making your protective barrier have leaky spots

Lmao all those who are complaining about the holes forget that the nails the shingles are nailed with leave a wider hole

Fasco are the best. Have a couple sencos but don’t use them much anymore. Ice and water shield plugs them up and can’t use them on synthetic unless you’re ok with leaks. Had fascos back in the day

For people saying the staple will make it leak
Underlayment shouldn’t see much water. The staple hold the material there until the shingles get laid out. If water is hitting your underlinement, you’ll have issues whether it’s capped, stapled, or peel n sticked. Water won’t run on top of underlayment and out the roof if it’s getting under shingles you’re toast in a couple years no matter what. Only acception is incidental water at eaves from ice

@Cragified...THANK YOU for this well-written comment! A year after you posted this, it is still "earning interest" as a priceless bit of guidance to the DIY viewers across the land.
It's just a garden shed I'm contemplating re-roofing myself.

The roofers that come to replace that when it leaks are screwed!
