Were Jesus and his disciples Trinitarian?

Neither Jesus nor his early followers like Paul were Trinitarians; this idea developed later as Christians sought ways to understand the divine. Rather than thinking that God literally exists in this manner, this concept can be better understood as a paradoxical prism through which Christians have traditionally experienced the divine, emerging from its historical context and interweaving Jewish and Hellenistic thought. However, this does not imply that it is the only way humans can experience the divine.

Academically honest. You can agree or disagree with him spiritually or academically however you can not agree that he is not spiritual or that he is not academic because he is. Love his work even if I don't always agree. Love the fact he allows academics and spirituality to be intertwined. He has a good sense of humor regarding his opinions and beliefs but does not come across as strongly hating anyone else's. Love it.

The Trinity was invented more than 200 years after Jesus died, so it has nothing to do with christanity. If it did Jesus would of mentioned it, or it be a major part of the base Gospels

Christianity is 2000 years of fan fiction. When I first said that it was a joke.

Turns out it’s 100% true.

I like hearing your thoughts; Jesus did relate personally to the Father and the Spirit as his family. As one in each other. And with relationship to the father through Jesus and then Holy Spirit we are adopted into 😊😊😊😊😊that family.

So right. The concept of a Trinity was introduced after the death of John (3rd century) and made a doctrine at the Council of Nicea.

My favorite thing about the trinity is its deeply mystical in conception and espoused by the sort of folk that think pokemon is witchcraft

The same can be said to Christmas 🎅 🎄 . Jesus, apostles and the early church fathers never celebrated Christmas 🎄. It was introduced 300 years later

Trinity was developed in communion with Neoplatonic doctrines, which, by the late Roman period was pushing forms of pagan monotheist thought throughout an increasingly multicultural milieu.

Trinity is a word the Fathers came up with to represent the tri-une God. I disagree with the host, but i do appreciate his views

As a European Protestant, I used to dislike the worship of Mary and the Saints. But now I totally accept that the worship of Mary in Catholicism (and maybe Orthodoxy, not sure) is an interesting way (because feminine) to connect to the divine ; and not that surprising after all when thinking of history, it reminds me of holy "families" like Osiris/Isis/Horus. I totally agree that the ways people experience their faiths should be respected as ways, not as truths (and I also think that radical monotheists could be more respectful). Peace.

except that Paul in philippians 2 said that Jesus shared the nature of God. John 1:1 "in the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God." Thomas, upon seeing and feeling the wounds of the resurrected Jesus, "My Lord and my God." Jesus to the people, "before Abraham was, I am." Yes, you are right to say that the doctrine of the trinity developed later on; however, it doesn't mean that people did not believe in the trinity before that. That's why, when Arius preached that there was a time Jesus was not, there were people to say, "No, that's not right." It was during the council of nicea that it became an established doctrine, but it does not mean that the belief began at the council of nicea.

What is this guy talking about? How does he interpret the statement of Jesus "I and the Father are ONE"? Or "before Abraham was, I AM"? Or St Paul calling Jesus God? Many more examples could be given. Jesus and St Paul DEFINITELY taught the Trinity.

“And Jesus coming, spoke to them saying: All power is given to me in heaven and in earth. Going therefore, teach ye all nations; baptizing them in the NAME of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit”. Mt28
If the supposed academic in this video can tell me HOW Jesus is referring to three Persons with a singular name and NOT be inferring the Trinity, I’ll eat my hat.
How arrogant he is to believe he’s better informed than those who actually touched Jesus and heard His voice.
