Hi, I'm a beginner English student.
I would like to thank you, somehow I manage to understand the whole idea you want to convey in your videos, even though they are recorded and subtitled in English.
I feel a daily evolution, I study based on your tips, thank you.
I'll still try to write a text like this for you without using a translator.

Great short video! Very wise suggestion. Nowadays, English language is a *communication tool* used by people who do *not* speak English as their first language. Learn the best way to use it as a *tool*. Do not try to imitate English or American people. Focus on being *comprehensible* and *effective*.

Well, as an EFL teacher I usually recommend my pupils to listen to native speakers and try to be aware of the specific phonetic features of the prominent native accents to easily understand the multiple English accents.

I think you are over-analyzing. People don't want to morph into natives (well sane one's anyways) they want to be able to speak at a native proficiency and be understood perfectly with an accurate accent, consistent with the region they want to visit.

Not all native speakers are good at English, but the best English speakers are native speakers. We obviously want to be like the best native speakers.

🥹hey thanks for your words. I’ve been listening your podcast and recently found your channel too. I’m stagnating in learning English and it discourages me a lot and lost a way to improve myself anymore. This short literally makes myself reconsider the way I see the language learning and your heartwarming words encourages me I really appreciate it!

I think we're all looking for fluency and mastery of idiom in our target language. At least that's what I am working towards in French 🥖. As an English language teacher for years as a younger man, I always warned my students to be VERY CAREFUL about trying to be like just any native speaker of English. U must learn to sift through the language skills, accent and ability to communicate of those you associate with!

Im gonna be completely honest, this lads right..
Im essentially a native at this point(started learning it at 6, only thinking in English now, everything I do online is in English, I sometimes cringe when watching German stuff anywhere) and I started making a shit ton of the mistakes that native speakers make like was/were f.e.
Which is kinda annoying when talking in a more professional setting, but amazing when talking in an informal setting

In Germany, they still call highly proficient German language speakers as a "native" level which makes me laugh in silence every time. 🤭 It's easier to understand this problem when your native language is very different from what is considered "proper" language which is still considered your native language. I'm talking diglossia. 🤓
