My mom was diabetic for over 40 years. When she moved in with us we put her on a vegan diet. It reduced her insulin intake by 70%. And she was able to come off some of her other medication. She lived another 5/6 years and died at 94. Her diabetes was never fully reversed, but her health sure did improve!

What lovely souls! I got choked up when Samantha was talking about her grandma. ❤
I think Samantha hit the “nail on the head” when she said her relative felt he should not go against the doctors orders concerning diet. Makes me think that’s where the work needs to be, getting nutrition to be a larger part of every physician’s curriculum.

Your gramma didn't have to see you walk at graduation because she knew you would make it through all the way to graduation and beyond! God bless Mrs. Gramma. I look forward to meeting her healed in heaven. 🙏

That's so true about Jamaica. My snacks were on the trees in our back yard. Nothing were package.
We ate meat once per week on Sundays that's brown stew chicken with beans and rice and some vegetables. We ate curry goat on special occasions like weddings, birthday parties. Fish once per week usually on Thursdays
Breakfast was banana porridge or cornmeal porridge with spices.
We ate carbs, vegetables. Drink real coconut water not box ones. The most important thing we open our windows in the mornings for fresh air and we sit on our verandas after work for relaxation. We walk around the neighborhood after dinners and just chat with neighbors who are usually our cousins. In the country we are all related. People lived longer no obesity. Now American diet has infiltrated Jamaica. They are getting American diseases.

This was a fantastic interview! Please have Samantha and her mom back again. As a Jamaican, I could relate to much of what she describes about growing up. Loved hearing about the airline vegan meal - earlier today I completed a survey for a different airline and answered the question about what they could do better by suggesting vegan options for snacks and drinks!

Absolute truth. We asked a kidney specialist who was part of a group serving southwest Michigan about getting my brother on a diet before his kidneys failed. The specialist said no need to see a nutritionist until AFTER his kidneys failed and he was on dialysis! Things were getting worse. We travelled several hours to find a kidney specialist unrelated to the healthcare system where he had been seen. The doctor referred him to a nutritionist as part of his care and he is improving. Guess what? His diet includes fruits, vegetables, beans, whole grains, seeds and nuts which his wife had been religiously avoiding because it hadn't been advised by the regional kidney specialist.

As a high raw WFPB vegan it is so wonderful to finally hear more interviews about the benefits of eating raw. Please bring them back! Thank you for a great interview Chuck!

This is probably the best interview I've seen/heard with someone who is predominantly raw vegan.

I have a hysterectomy scheduled in about a month and taking it all out and I’m petrified. Your videos however have made such a difference in my being able to be brave enough to go through with it. Thank you.

It is very nice to hear these two ladies speak about a healthy diet and the tragedy of diabetes. It's too bad fresh vegetables aren't available in some neighborhoods. I personally use Walmart for my food and the quality has been very good to excellent, but the stores aren't in every area.

I looked at all my dry and canned goods, and about 95% of them are the Walmart brand called great value. I know a lot of people want to go with other brands but they suit me.
