I think you just forgot to slap it twice and say “that baby ain’t going nowhere”

Once I went rock climbing in Slovenia and the "instructor" of the place made fun of me using the classic 8-knot to secure myself... He said a simple overhand will do the job just fine. I obviously refused but up until today I always was wondering if the overhand might be actually good enough. You just proved me right to use the 8-knot.

This channel saved my life once.... just so you know.

Always good to refresh yourself on knots you think you know, but you may have forgotten a step over time

In rock climbing we use a figure 8 on a bite bc it is easier to untie but is as secure from pulling loose as an overhand

I think the diameter of the ring/shackle can probably make quite a big difference. 2KN is so low it would otherwise come undone the second somebody steps on the line

This is what YouTube was made for. Thank you for your content.

Bowline it’s a wonderful knot that is really easy to learn

The one in the picture is way thicker and that usually matters causing more friction.

There is a detail missing in the test. The free end in the photo is caught between the steel ring and the loop, so the load presses on the loose end. This is not the case in the test, where the loose end is below the carabiner, so there is nothing stopping it from moving. I expect this to make a big difference.

The loose end in the photo runs under the pulled end on the inside of the ring creating added friction. That can make a very big difference.

I’d be curious how much better this is if you hold the tail as it’s tightened?

This may sound crazy but if you pull fast would it get tighter?

I have definitely seen overhands fail for less. Subbed for how thorough you are.

We wouldn’t have had the modern classic that is Cliffhanger without these knots. True treasures😂

The straps you use are smooth and the photo looks like a rough strap that much thicker as well

Those hands look crazy powerful, if this guy ever got into slap fights competitively we’d be looking at the new champ.

Surely it would depend on the webbing as well due to different friction rates?

I just used that knot on ratchet strap to get my Christmas tree home. I didn't check to make sure the hooks would pass through the roof rack rails before I left (they wouldn't). I ended up taking of the rachet and wrapping the strap through the back car door openings and over the tree twice. There was only enough strap left for an overhand knot. Made it home without losing the tree, I think the closed doors held better than the knot.
