I'm glad this phone is getting the exposure it deserves, I know it's expensive but it has what other phones don't

I've had my Xperia 1 mark ii for over two years now and I love it's camera system. It's the closest to an actual camera experience of any phone. And the large degree of manual control means that I'm the one taking the photos. Not the phone. As well as the natural colours. I have sometimes been able to get some astonishing shots for a phone camera. Is it for everyone? it doesn't have to be. Are all cars made for every type of customer? No. There are specific cars for specific markets and audiences.

The Xperia phones are a lot like a manual sports cars. If you are only used to and comfortable with an automatic sedan (an iphone or Galaxy) then you probably won't like it. But if you want something different (and Xperia phones certainly are different), and you want something with top of the line specs for media consumption and a camera system that can be tweaked and pushed to get the exact type of picture you want then it can certainly be a fantastic phone.

I went from a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra to the Xperia 1 IV and couldn't be happier :-) It's way better in so many ways, and it'll hopefully get even better with future updates. I've experienced heating problems, but it hasn't caused any problems.
I think the fingerprint reader is placed exactly where it's supposed to be. I have used under-the-screen fingerprint readers before, both on OnePlus and Samsung, and they didn't work too well. The OnePlus 7 Pro reader was dreadful, actually.

I have the Xperia 1 III and it's awesome 😁 always been an Xperia user and will continue to be. The general performance is awesome

I disagree with the fingerprint reader location. Making it under lock button makes sense and has been there for most part of Xperia line up, and should forever be kept there.

There is no need for a gimmick that is under the screen fingerprint reader.

I preordered one and as I’m in the US, I am waiting until September and I hope software updates address the CPU / Thermal issues.

Color science of xperia is second to none.
And most reviewers say it's HDR wasn't impressive.

Every Xperia fan would definitely appreciate a little thicker device (not a lot like the XZ2's with their curved back), for better thermal management.

I've had the Xperia Acro S, Play, Z1, Z2, Z5P, XZP, XA Ultra, 1 and now im using the Xperia 1iii.

Ever since i used the ip certified Xperia Acro S back in 2011 i refused to go back to a phone without the IP certification. It was just so handy and you did not really have to worry about water damage by minor accidents in the kitchen / shower. The only exceptions where the Play because of its gamer controls and the XA Ultra because it was a back up phone when i broke my XZP

I think Sony is not as popular because of a few minor previous shortcomings that had a big outcome during use in the past like an unusable phone when the screen cracked while the competition did not have this problem. And negative reviews by big youtubers like mkbhd. I remember he ignored and called ip something extra / overkill and that Sony should reconsider to make a rugged phone instead of a more life proof ip flagship it was overkill and not needed. 5 years later when Apple, Samsung and all of the rest started doing the same it all of the sudden became a must have for any flagship look up his and other old youtube reviews and see them downplay ip on Xperia devices ^^

Sony should do something about the thermal issues. My Xperia 1iii also heats up during camera usage and gaming the only thing to reduce this problem a little was by turing off 5g and by using hs power control during gaming for me.

That being said if the phone did not come with the thermal issues then it would be the perfect device that actually has it all. 4k, 3.5 mm jack, sd card slot, no notch, and a perfectly placed fingerprint scanner!

I hope they continue making phones while improving on overall quality. Either way my next one will be a Sony too 🤟🏾

The photo from Xperia 1iv is great but some people like a processed photo. I owned an Xperia 1ii, only the Xperia can give a true Natural look on the photo. I love to edit a photo so I don't have any issues with nonprocessed photos..
Unlike the xperia 1iv, the Xperia 1ii was not had an overheating issue

I have the 1II and love it. No reason to change to the IV but is a beast for sure

I like Sony's approach here, at least it's different than any other smartphone out there. Nice take on the review.

Please do a review outdoors in your tropical Singapore. Photo and video wise the Xperia 1 IV becomes a very expensive brick as it constantly overheats. 😁

Nice review, you covered all the aspects of the phone and show multiple photos/ video samples. Extra point for you because you're in Singapore.

Thanks for the solid review. A disagree with the fingerprint sensor suggestion, I think it's great on the power button and it should stay there.
This is the only phone I want, as I prefer the natural look to the over processed images from all other phones. But currently its too expensive and overheats a lot, so I can't justify getting it.

I have Xperia pro l, it's takes better photos than the lV . Plus it doesn't heat up as much as the IV, the Xperia IV has a better selfie camera and I think the vedio is better on the IV. The heating issues Xperia IV is unacceptable for phone that cost $ 1300, I sent my back . It's to bad because I think is a really good phone.

Cool video. I'm so glad to see you finally review a Sony Xperia.

I hope you will review the new Sony XG300 speaker.

There is only one solution... To root the phone and downcloack the processors to 60% power. But... It's on your own risk. This exactly situation was with the sd810 processor.. And the rooting was the only fixing solution. Sadly no cooling hardware in this phone! Seems that Xperia 1 mark 2 and 3 are better options! At least the Xperia 1 mark 3 has the full goodies in the box! Thank you for this review!
