A extra note as a plumber myself. If you have a bathtub made out of any type of stone BUY THE PUTTY WITH THE BLUE TOP you can’t use the type used in this videos on stone. You can use the blue top on anything so i’d recommend just getting it so if you have any other projects you got a one does all putty

Mine was a freaking nightmare. The tub hadn't been touched since it's installation in '61. Mine wouldn't turn. Sprayed it with Blaster cut a notch on each side to grip it with a flat bar. I ended up doing careful and dangerous surgery with my Sawzall. Cut the thing in half then cut it into quarters and pried the small piece out and tap, tap, tap...800 times with a cold chisel and it finally unscrewed. Cleaned the threads and screwed in the new one. No thread damage...wow! Lucky!

Just so you know. Plumbers use pipe dope on the threads. And we also replace the shoe gasket when replacing tub drain. And that tool is called a smart dumbbell🤙🤣

Looks real easy. In reality the star shape cross members at the bottom o0f the drain break because you have to turn so hard. The old plumber's putty hardened over time making it impossible to turn. I had to put some duck tape around a 1 1/16 deep impact socket and smack it into the drain. Then turned it with a breaker bar to get it to unscrew.

If you have an old tub the drain likely will not spin out. It’s common to have to use a multitool, sawzall, or hacksaw to cut it out.

i definitely definitely need to do this ….ever since the day we moved into our house 🏡….but other attention went to things that took priority…..shower handles new faucet toilet 🚽 has been replaced already ….I just need to replace the bathtub drain and shower head ….as for the entire shower insert ….it’s out of my skill level ….

What do you do if the pipe you’re screwing into under the tub is loose and moving back and forth so the threads are almost impossible to get to?
