I reckon I am a knot knuffy [Yes, a new word!], and of course YouTube now supplies an endless number of demonstrations of different knots and their applications across the world. But this is the first I have seen to incorporate coloured wire in the demonstration. So easy to follow - and no more rewinding for me. Such a simple but brilliant idea! Well done Tim.

This is very interesting - I'm a piano technician and use this knot routinely to join piano string wire, like doing break repairs, So, obviously the knot is very robust. Knot away!!

Great video! I'm a seasoned PHD (post hole digger) ... Cattle fence in Virginia. I've watched your interview with Tim White, fence builder, probably 10 times. Filming a guy like that is just awesome. Thanks for the good work!

Tim, your knot videos have made me look like a fencing pro at the Buffalo ranch. I have your videos downloaded to my phone for reference. You made me LOVE my Hayes Chain Thanks

Poor Dog got a bit of a scare. Glad the camera didn't break. It was funny how a good example of why guards are important happened right after you mentioned not using one.

So it looks like the Figure-eight knot strength exceeds the recommended strain of 184 kg by a huge margin (180%), even if it's below the wire breaking strength. I can live with that. Thanks for the test!

This is the best wire- tying video you've done so far... thanks!!! Colors really help see under /over under over... and which wire

Good morning, Tim I love science as well when it's put into practice. Excellent demo. I had finished my coffee before watching. Just in case I got excited and spilled it. Cheers, I will be sharing this video.

this may sound crazy... i was tuning the bass strings on my old upright piano... was not paying attention and tightening the wrong string and POP broke a wire... not easy to find one bass string and did not want to order a whole set... so i found this and with GREAT effort was able to bend the wire (piano wire is high carbon 400 ksi... not easy to work with)... make this knot and put it back on and tune it...and as the Aussies say... Bob's your uncle! Thanks!

Very interesting, and the knot is stronger than the 50-55% I'd have guessed.

Perfect timing. Been watching a bunch of your old fencing vids as well and have done a great fix up job around the property. Thanks mate! Would love to see you do a video on setting posts - especially in very stony ground. Our place is an old river bed so we can’t just use an auger. Any tips?

That's a good advert for Spiral Fast.

Since the break happens where the knot bends back on itself, what if you were to put something inside the bending loop to prevent the bend from getting so small? Possibly, you could put a couple extra strands of wire, such that each end coming in is like a double wire, similar to barbed wire.

Of all the things I don't want to "master" fencing is pretty high on the list. Right up there with roofing and asphalt work

I was pulling away from my screen and cringing as you tensioned the wire ;-). Good info. I use barbless twisted smooth wire with horses here. Not serious tensile strain, but much flexing as horses push against it. Is this knot applicable, or is there a better choice for twisted pair cable? Cheers!

Might seem like a waste of time to finish off with wraps but takes bugger all time, looks neater and leaves no sharp edges and dont need to cut any wire.

"the machine comes with a safety guard... I'm just not using it." Made me laugh. You do know this is why women live longer than men.

"Pigtails" you say but a 69 was just meant to be when you put a 6 in one length and a 9 in the other length 😂
