Europe is not just one country but several. We have different benefits in different countries. As an example in Sweden, you can take parental leave for 480 days.

The friendliness is a thing in Europe. My German close friends talk about “fake” smile and friendliness associated with Americans. They have a point. All societies have a public etiquette.

Parental leave 21 weeka in Europe. In Croatia you have maternal leave the whole year until baby's first birthday

As an European I disagree with public restrooms as I rarely found toilets in which you had to pay to pee, often they are totally free

just for educational reasons: Europe is not a country, dear US-Americans. Europe is a continent of 47 countries. I am from Germany and have traveled many European countries. While we are actually not very "friendly" in Germany (rather not very emotional towards strangers), things are completely different in Greece, Albania etc. As a tourist you are welcomed with open arms and someone suddenly serves you more food than you will ever be able to eat. You travel through Poland, make friends with someone and even though you've known them for maybe 3 days, you're suddenly sitting at the table with their family for dinner. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Things that don't happen in Germany, but do happen in other European countries because we all have very different cultures.

Paying to used toilet was a 1st for me. But every single one was clean, and the most I paid was 1.20 euros.

The thing with taxes is: in EU, you are paying them for the service you receive ( free health care being one of the greatest things)
While in the US, the taxes are there to make the rich richer and the poor, poorer.

And that's why I love Europe so much more.

They do walk everywhere but everything is a lot closer.
In the grand scheme of things they do walk very far. But things in the US are also just spread out a lot.

About friendliness, There is also a big difference between North and south of Europe. my Italian boyfriend often says that people where I live (north east of France) are cold and not friendly at all, but it’s just how we behave.
When people are too familiar from the start, we will think « wooowow, we didn’t raise the pigs together »
It feels fake and kinda disrespectful ?
While after a few times, when you get closer and closer, those people are actually super attached and will do everything for you. Dog sit, help you move, introduce you to their boss if you’re looking for a new job.
For me, southern people (even south of France !) are a little TOO warm and it feels fake. they say you are best friends after ONE evening, but then you never see them again…

Friendliness is 100% true as a Scot. I love it when I go to America as Americans are so much friendlier than any Scottish or European people I have come into contact with.

My father-in-law is from Sicily and we have a family restaurant. Once, customers came in that he had known for many years. The daughter had been away at college and when my father-in-law saw her he said “ You gotta really big.” She walked out in tears. We all pounced on him, but he didn’t bat an eye and said “What? She makeh nice and fatta.” 🤦🏼‍♀️

Well as Estonian. Yes we all act kinda cold .but it's really not that true because we just don't waste time fr pointless talks . If you really want to be friends whit someone in Europe you need to ask if they want you as friends. We don't play around. Most of us are very friendly once we got to know ya . 😅
