All I could think was that if the “community” cared so much they could have literally crowdfunded the daughter’s education.

I love when other people judge someone for not helping someone yet they never offer a finger of help

Perfect example of giving someone and inch, and they take a mile. He helped them out with lower rent, to her trying to basically steal his property...

it's crazy how any members of the community were ever on board for a LANDLORD to pay for a tenants education

Even if he sold the property, per her request, it would have been his money and not hers. He wouldn't have to give her anything, and she would have been out of a place to live, too.

i-if she managed to get the community together for this could she not have crowdfunded the money?

Since when has it been a landlord’s responsibility to pay for tenant’s college?? Are we living in a real world?

Imagine taking the issue all the way to court when you know for a fact that your case is so obviously fake and indefensible. I could never.

How is the single mom's struggles and efforts relevant to her claim to what I suspect is at least tens of thousands of dollars of equity?

It is a classic moment when karen thinks she has the upper hand and then gets slammed into the ground by two things called "reality" and "consequences."

It doesnt even matter if the dude DOES have the money to help, its HIS money and they arent even alittle bit related. WTF. This lady is a crazy person!

Being wealthy and unsympathetic has nothing to do with funding someone else's education, and without a written agreement, a second-hand conversation means nothing.

Wow this is the perfect example of a Chinese saying "A dog will not say thank you but will bark to ask for more."

I will understand people like this. Make it simple. "Yes I have money. No it is not yours. I own property. No it is not yours. I owe you nothing. It doesn't matter if I'm selfish. What I own, you are not entitled to. It does not matter if you have less. I do not need to paint myself as the perfect landlord." The end.

It’s easy to tell that OP was trying his best to be calm and think things through as level headed as possible, even when a community was against him. But the second his kids got bullied at school, anyone here knew that Emily was done for.

I do feel bad for Lily, but very hopeful that she’ll get to wherever her ambitions take her. She doesn’t need an expensive prestigious school to become someone of value. Her being a good person and plans to go about her life makes her a worthwhile person.

Its always nice to see justice being served.

It’s simple, does Emily own the property? No. Is Emily’s daughter OP’s daughter? No. Then it’s not OP’s problem, OP is Emily’s landlord why would he sell the property and give Emily the money when there’s no guarantee Emily or her daughter will even pay back the money?

you know the world is really fucked when people can just demand that someone sells their own property to pay for something they have nothing to do with.

Helping that single mom turned out to be the worst mistake OP ever made

What a weird hill the mother picked to die on, like her thought process was "I'm gonna harass and try to squeeze money from my LANDLORD??" When has that EVER worked? Astounding
