We did a video a few weeks ago where we asked our mechanics... "what's one car you would never buy". That video has now amassed nearly 7 million views and a lot of questions from our audience, particularly why several mechanics stated they would never buy a Hyundai or Kia.

You wanted to know why and here are their answers. Enjoy and thanks for watching!

I deliver to the Hyundai dealer in Tulsa, I'd say I deliver 5 to 8 engines per week. Not to mention transmissions. And thats just one dealer.

I had two Hyundai rental cars the past weeks.
One just didn’t start one day and it showed no errors. The other one had an engine overheating issue after 120km so I think this guy is telling the truth

Daughter bought a Kia, had it a little over 2 years engine went out. They knew there was a problem. Company would do nothing about it.

Friend has a 2012 Sonata that caught on fire while her mechanic was driving it after a maintenance schedule.

I love my Mazda CX-5 and made in Japan where excellent quality is their highest priority.

He is right. Engine failure and engine loosing more power comparatively over time is common in Hyundai engines here in India too.

Old hyundai engines were indestructible, and smaller ones. Had in Europe i30 wagon 1.4 petrol with 109hp. Pushed it everyday to the limiter, this year I replaced it, 14y now, the car is at my dad and it is still running. Indestructible car. 220k km, mostly city and highway driving.

I'm still rocking a 2009 Kia Rio LX 1.4cc. Maintenance is key but I do gotta say mine is Korean built and not from South America or USA.

I did some subcontract work in the Kia dealership once. Beautiful place. Brand new. Not a drop of oil on the floor. One technician, one working stall. 14, gorgeous, bays.
I asked them if they needed to hire another technician. The technician on duty said no. We don't fix cars here. I'd take a step back, I said this is a repair facility right? He said it is. And I look at cars all day long. I give them $900 brake estimates, $2000 timing belt estimates. And then the salesman rolls them over to one more percent in their financing and gives them a new car.

Then he pointed out back, to over 50 cars, used as trade-ins. That all needed brakes, and timing belts.

My Kia is drinking oil like it’s gas, so that engines gonna die at some point but the warranty from the class action lawsuit should cover it as long as someone doesn’t steal it with a usb stick

Applies to AMERICAN built Hyundais and Kias I suppose. I still have a little Korean-built Hyundai Getz with a 1.6 litre Alpha engine that I bought new in 2003, and it's still alive AND a daily driver already done more than 473K km and still going strong

They don’t honor their warranty. Those two companies are no good!

To be fair, they did eventually fix the issue with the Theta 2 engines... But that doesn't change that fact that over a million vehicles were sold with ticking time bombs for engines, and that there are still hundreds of thousands of them on the roads.

Bought a 2016 Hyundai Sonata, when the odometer went to 98K that’s when the engine needed to be replaced. I was out of a car for 5 1/2 months because the dealership was doing so many replacements. I sold the car this year cause it had been the victim of 5 attempted Kia Boys challenges. I will never buy or trust Kia/Hyundai/Genesis ever.
