Buying a used British car is like playing Russian roulette with only one bullet missing. It’s essentially financial suicide.

I drove a 2006 Bentley Continental Flying Spur for 7 years and bought it for only 40k at the time with 37k miles on it. I sold it for 29k eventually and other than regular maintenance the only thing that ever went wrong was the air suspension went out once. They REALLY are reliable and oh my god are they fun and comfortable. Plus it's actually doesn't get a bunch of the wrong attention because it was so understated.

Wanna impress your friends with a baller car on the cheap? Don't forget, if your friends think you're rich, so does the mechanic. 😂😂

LOL - the Nissan truck commercial right in the middle of "Don't buy these" vehicles might not have been the best placement. :)

As head tech at a euro specialist shop I have a saying for all my customers. "While the car depreciates, the maintenance and repairs do not". I personally have an S65 with the hydraulic ABC suspension. Even with me taking care of it, parts are OEM only and expensive!

I used to work as a technician at jag/landrover in the UK, I can tell you from experience, the "Annoying electrical issues" on range rovers are not just "annoying", We had a '09 sat in the shop for a month getting diagnosed with a different electrical issue every day, It was bricked and wouldn't even turnover. Until one day a "red sheet" comes in and they swap the whole transmission, I was an apprentice at the time working under the diagnostic and electrical guy, Probably one of the most depressed people I've worked with, Scrolling through 160 error codes on a laptop and guessing what the real issue could be was hard for the guy with years experience working with the cars, I doubt if you buy a especially bad example you'd actually fix it.

That was an especially bad example, But it was common range rovers came in with electrical faults that would be in the shop for close to a week while the whole interior had to come out to check wiring harnesses and old corroded connectors, Seems the problem is mainly daignostics though, One wire goes bad you get 20+ faults. one fuse burns out you get the same. So it can be a simple fix, its just luck. Also the amount of special tooling jag/landrover uses is just diabolical there are some mechanical issues you just wont fix as a home mechanic if you're not pulling engines or can find the tooling.

Note for the c63, they fixed the head bolt issue after the 2012 models.

I've owned my 2015 BMW 650xi Gran coupe for 6 years. Still no serious mechanical issues. I've replaced a single o2 sensor. And a driveshaft bushing. Car still rides incredibly smooth and is a beast on the highway

The only gran turismos with an automated manual were the MC stradales and a few other special low quantity models, the vast majority of GT had the zf automatic torque converter box which is very reliable, the GT was probably one the more reliable expensive luxury coupe from europe of that era, not too fast but not that problematic to own 😅

3 weeks ago I bought a mint 2014 Prius for only $1k to use as a commuter instead of pushing my heavily modified Tacoma towards 200k. It was the best financial car decision I ever made. Sometimes it just pays off being very nice to your retired neighbors.

The supercharged V-6 in the F-type is really reliable. It has one common coolant leaking issue that requires the supercharger to be removed to replace the part, but nothing a backyard mechanic couldn't do. And if it's already been replaced with the updated part or a metal one, issue solved. I have the same engine in my Jaguar XF and I've never had an issue.

I have had a 2013 BMW 640i for about 7 years. got it used with 20k miles on it and for 7 years I put 80k miles on it and for the first time in 7 years I had to replace the water pump (which I did myself). I only had to do maintenance and replace flat tires from road garbage. other than that this car has been a gem. It's been so good that when I get a new car, I might buy another one.

2:04 As an owner of a maserati from 2005, which has the same trans as the 08, the f1 trans just needs to be treated right, only shifting in the manual mode, putting it in neutral if you are at a long red light, and taking your foot off the accelerator when shifting, ive done most of the work to this car with my dad and weve had a blast driving it. the time spent working on it pays off in the end trust me. the sound, the high rpms, it all results in a beautiful car. i haven't heard of anyone spending 5k unless they take it to maserati and treat it like a toyota. its a high performance italian car with its quirks and that should be considered when buying one

For the first 100k miles of a bmw, it’s drivers car

After that point, it’s the mechanics car

edit: not all the bmw guys replying about their 15 year old cars with a bajillion miles lmao. My civic will out last you all!
