This Great SUV Is Now Cheaper! (Volkswagen Touareg 2024 Review)

Detailed review and test of the 2024 Volkswagen Touareg facelift, including new price, models, V6 engine, handling, specs and more.

Volkswagen has repriced its Touareg large SUV with a few thousand dollars off on the base 170TDI grade (plus a bunch of previously optional equipment now included), while the 210TDI Elegance and 210TDI R-Line grades have had their prices slashed by higher amounts.

The Touareg is a rival to the likes of the Audi Q7, BMW X5 and Mercedes GLE - and even the Toyota Prado Kakadu and Ford Everest Platinum.

Thank heavens it does not have 7 seats. Not everyone wants to carry around a tribe or the extra weight of unwanted seats. Thanks for spending some time talking about the headlights too, although it would be nice if there was some footage of them in use, something that seems sadly lacking in almost every car review since the beginning of time.

I just bought the base model. Having owned two Cayennes (One a turbo), and an X5 in the past, I see this new Toureg as an extremely usable luxury vehicle at an incredibly low price for the package. Good review, by the way.

Love VW. This car is spectacular but 20k. Dealer delivery charges for the Touareg is insane.

It's a Touareg, not a Tiguan @10:32mins change please

@4:20 - Has VW resolved the issue via a Touchscreen software update?

Unless you're absolutely enamored by the shape or are one of those 'I must have European cars' kinda ppl, I can't see why anyone would pick this over a Mazda CX60 for example. The price doesn't make any sense.

The toureg starts at around 96K and that's for the base model whilst even the mid spec CX60 D50e GT will arguably have a better interior despite sporting a smaller screen, definitely have a more powerful (and yet more economical) engine and cost around 70K. You can also argue it would be a better car than the Toureg elegance since it will come loaded with features like panoramic sunroof and whatnot. Even if you splash for the top spec Azami and you'd STILL be ahead by over 10k. And I'm not even gonna go into the reliability of each manufacturer...

You just can't justify the asking price. Either needs to VW really rethink this or there are more fools than I'd expected out there.

Nice review, Touareg actually looks okay. Unfortunately, though Volkswagen poor reputation for warranty and service means I would give this vehicle a miss, not even a so-called price reduction would entice me to purchase this vehicle.

Upcoming prodo 250 will be best seller in this medium suv segment unless VW drops their price around 65-70k drive away

When they start making reliable cars maybe their sales will also pick up.

I would be worried about the reliability issues of the VW . I personally would purchase a Toyota prado instead 👍

Those wheels are ugly and very cheap looking

Those wheels are just awful and not befitting of a “luxury” suv

It sounded a little like an advertorial to me... should we really be praising a cargo blind? Anyhow, the most useful feature that I heard is the range (1400km on highway). This would be handy for interstate travelling with a family on board. The least useful feature... the 15 inch screen.... drivers need to spend their time driving, not playing with a bloody screen.

EDIT: I almost forgot... No car should be towing a trailer that is heavier than the vehicle itself. Anyone doing this is just asking for trouble. It's irresponsible of manufacturers to advertise this. Besides, with a 280kg maximum lowball weight, you might struggle to get a 3.5 tonne trailer attached (rule of thumb is about 10%).

It has good payload because the tow ball weight is below average. Then you have to put a full size spare in the boot because there is a space saver. There is no way I would tow around remote parts of the country with a space saver as the back up. Then there is VW’s dismal reputation at the dealership. Good car, not a good tow car for touring.

Depreciation! in 6 years time it’ll be worth about as much as a Pajero sport 🤣

The front is very disappointing. It looks like VW took inspiration from the previous generation Amarok. The interior fit’n’finish looks abit average too.

Horrendous alloy wheels design om 170 Tdi was holding it back in previous generation. It seems to be fixed now ! And why does VW not fit the better engine that gets shipped to other markets ? This engine is straight from their UTEs. Not fair
