Please STOP sucking in your belly all the time b/c it can lead to so many belly and pelvic floor issues!⬇️

Bellies should be squishy, soft, & flexible to the touch (it’s okay to have rolls and folds!)❤️

You only want to engage your CORE when you are doing an exercise, lifting, carrying, squatting, etc.

Even TIGHT clothing like high waisted SPANDEX, waist trainers, and back braces used long term can cause abdominopelvic problems⬇️⬇️⬇️

These devices and/or spandex over your belly could be causing core weakness, indigestion, bloating, and/or pelvic and low back pain...🤯

Why?🤔The compression of the spandex over the abdominal muscles causes decreased activation of your core muscles especially transversus abdominus! The spandex acts like a abdominal or low back brace that ultimately causes the core muscles to “turn off” and you relax/bulge into your spandex❗️

Transversus abdominus is one of the main core stabilizing muscles of the spine. It wraps around the lower belly to the back of the spine like a “corset to stabilize and protect the spine and internal organs❗️

Wearing your spandex high over your belly button causes decreased activation of your core muscles over time which can result in low back pain, excessive lumbar lordosis, and weakening of the abdominal wall❗️

Tight spandex can also compresses the internal organs or viscera which can disrupt digestion, gut motility, and increase abdominal pain especially if you are bloated❗️

TRUST ME. I LOVE my high spandex. I wear them all the time (too much honesty!) BUT I try to roll or fold them down over the front hip bones when I’m working, eating, and exercising to increase abdominal activation and prevent my belly from just “hanging out” on my spandex✅

They are super important for acute injuries (like during pregnancy or postpartum!) and post operative patients suffering from low back fractures, postpartum, C-sections, acute abdominal separation, hernia repairs etc. BUT wearing braces or using spandex all the time to “keep everything in” even for pain relief, could be causing your body more harm than good❗️

The goal is to have passive CORE tone already from doing exercise✅
