Live coverage as the Polaris Dawn crew attempt the world's first commercial spacewalk from the SpaceX Dragon capsule Resilience. The spacewalk is scheduled to begin at 5:58 a.m. EDT (0858 UTC) but the time is subject to change.

Aboard Resilience are mission commander, Jared Isaacman, retired U.S. Air Force pilot, Scott “Kidd” Poteet, and two SpaceX Lead Space Operations Engineers, Anna Menon and Sarah Gillis. Isaacman and Gillis will take turns emerging from the Dragon's hatch while Poteet and Menon remain inside. The entire spacecraft will be depressurised for the Extravehicular Activity (EVA).

In addition to performing the spacewalk the crew have already flown further from Earth than anyone since the Apollo era.

Commentary will be provided by Will Robinson-Smith.

Thank you so much for letting the public be a part of this. How exciting for Polaris Dawn and Space X-Congratulations!

I don't think people appreciate the importance of this space walk. By having a private corporation do this is one more step toward opening space to the whole earth, not just the chosen few. The very first spacewalk was in 1965. I was 13 years old. I'm now 72. This is how far we've come in my lifetime. We could've been even further if there hadn't been an almost complete shutdown of our space program after Apollo.

I’ve tried to really think about this, you’ve went on a rocket all the way to space, now you’re going to actually step out into the universe. You look down at your feet, and you’re so far above the earth. We are surrounded by space that goes for eternity in every direction.
The first time I went snorkeling and looked under the water and I was over a school of stingrays, it took my breath. I can’t imagine what this feels like.

Couldn't watch it live, but the replay was gorgeous! Looks like a pretty much perfect EVA experience. Congratulations to Spacex and the thousands of other people that made this ❤❣

After the stream ended I went out side just before sunrise and made an effort to see Polaris Dawn pass by on the horizon, but low cloud obscured its passage. What a great stream. Fantastic job to Will and the whole SFN team.

Well done to SpaceX and crew members and all involved to make it happen. I did expect like rite out of craft, as in legs and all, but I understand how big a step to do what they done.

This is not only cool but another step for SpaceX to reach planetary travel

It's truly amazing how technology has changed the design of space suits etc. Who would ever think that these slim suits would withstand the vacuum of space.

Millions of people watching bucket list items being checked off. Great adventure for sure.

I’m surprised that people don’t understand the concept of incrementalism. This isn’t the Space Station where there are hand holds and suit assemblies with thrusters…this is confirmation of processes and an absolute success for SpaceX

Congrats to All, amazing accomplishment.

The new suits functioned phenomenally well compared to the old NASA suits like the one Astronaut Ed White worn in 1965.

Bet a quarter, there´s gonna be people saying this was done in a studio with the top hollywood director.

That's like a Honda Space Vehicle, If I go, I need a Cadillac.

Congratulations.

A significant milestone but I have to be honest. I am used to what we had with the Gemini Program as real EVA spacewalks. Just standing in the hatch is underwhelming.

So, really cool and I know it's partially a test for all the new technology, so don't want to knock it, , but think calling it a spacewalk is a little generous :-) Maybe next time they will actually step out of the capsule so they actually walk :-)

Awesome! A longer, untethered spacewalk, which is common at the International Space Station, wasn’t possible because only NASA suits are currently equipped with jetpacks that can guide an astronaut back to safety.

Why are they always cutting out the cameras for the opening closing of the hatch?
