Early ACL Rehab Mistake & Milestones

Early ACL rehab should be focused on establishing range of motion. I see many people who have had ACL surgery make this mistake in recovery. Rehab clinicians who are unfamiliar with ACL recovery also tend to make this mistake when prescribing range of motion exercises early on in the ACL recovery process.

Try to gain as much knee extension by 4 weeks post op bec after that the joint gets stiff
Symmetry by 8 W or 4 W
Prioritize extent of stretching and ROM you want to have
6:20 Biggest mistake early on
7:50 typical prescription for knee extension

Hello just had acl recon, 3 days ago, with bone tendon bone allograft with an internal brace and meniscotomy. I can straighten it no problem. It does lock out backwards sometimes when im walking. Ive got the knee bender thing and im at 55° so far. But my shin where they attached the brace is making me feel like im cutting the blood off from there down and very painful. What can i do to alleviate that?

I messed up. I didn't go to physio before the surgery and walked on a stiff knee for 2 months from point of injury to surgery. Now I'm nearly 6 weeks post op and my leg is straight after a few minutes of prone hang but nowhere near hyperextension. Is it possible to get the hypertension back? My doc and physiotherapist said no. I have double bundle hamstring graft with synthetic jewel acl. Thanks for the video?

A lot of physios don't really know what are they doing....
My physio obviously don't know nothing.
Ride the bike and go home.
I go to the gym daily and do my exercises.
What a sham.

Hello I had ACL reconstruction and meniscus cleaning 4 months back I've got 120 degree knee extension and not able to get back bending. I started my physio right after 3 days of surgery and I've been doing exercises twice a day. Can u tell me is it normal or is there some issue ?

This is one of the best videos about ACL recovery. Thank you! I am on my 7th week post acl surgery with hamstring harvest, I am super good with extension and bending but the hamstring is a killer! Its just too easy to force it and I frel a pop and very sharp pain (like tearing) when I force my hamstring a bit. Is that normal? How long will it take for my hamstring muscle to fully recover?

In week 5, still couldn’t achieve 0 degrees knee extension. I’m at 5 degrees, last week was 10 degrees. Swelling is still there. Adding more reps & weights in exercises to achieve hyperextension at week 8. Is this a good idea ?

Hello, first of all, thank you for the video, it is some of the best advise I’ve seen out there. If wouldn’t mind me asking a quick question; after 2 weeks of acl repairment surgery I have 100 % extension range and 70% bending range motion. Would you say it is ok to start with static bike if bending allows? I know it is not medical advise and it depends on a variety of factors, but would appreciate your general opinion

I did ACL reconstruction plus meniscus repair 5 month ago and know I need to do arthroscopic because I can't bend my knee more than 90 even after all the physio I did. Do you recommend doing physio every day after arthroscopic surgery? And per day wow many time should exercise? Thanks so much for your help and to share all your content? I'm a big fan of your channel

8 days post surgery right now BTB ACL surgery, only ACL damage. I was able to bend my knee to 105 degrees and I can even flex and raise it off the ground. That was at PT and I was medicated. I can walk like I’m 70 for a little bit as well. I am wondering at what point will most of the pain dissipate?

Thanks for you video..Right knee ACL reconstruction (bone patella tendon bone)

plus medial meniscus repair
plus microfracture medial femoral condyle.
I had the surgery in early June this year (15 weeks ago) and I still don´t have total knee extension and it is very difficult for me to bend more than 95 degrees. When I try to go more than 95 degrees flexion I feel a blockage/stiffness and I can´t bend further.
Can you please give me some advice? I really appreciate it.
Thank you

Does electrotherapy help in this journey?

Would the leg compression machines be helpful in the beginning? The ones that cover from your foot to your hips
