Evening all! Thought I would jump in explain a few things not in video. Only reason we were leaving ceiling was because from floor level the grey areas looked like flat asbestos boards. We sent off samples last year of all suspected asbestos roofing and sheets elsewhere on the farm and have contractors lined up for 3 barn roof removals. This internal ceiling we hadn't any reason to touch so was due to be left for a few years but clearly it was galv after all but really had to go, still nasty stuff so glad to see the back off all that!

WOW! You knew in your heart of hearts you wanted to do a more thorough job - but that was something else!! All credit to you for the seriously hard work that involved. But the results are certainly worthwhile. Maybe even bin that mask now? Keep following your instinct with H&S.
Cheers

Hi all A bit of a mix bag all things considered, there is newish felt under the tiles . Yet it’s taken years to accumulate all those droppings, and also someone going to all the trouble of installing galvanised sheets to the ceiling . Definitely not a cheap exercise even back then, I assume you will put an access hatch in the new ceiling so you can check if you get any uninvited guests . I would definitely put some sort of extraction in if you plan to put multiple freezers in, and possibly consider dedicated supply’s . And possibly with no RCD protection , which you are allowed to do providing adequate signs are provided . The last thing you want is a fault somewhere else affecting your freezers . Kind regards as always .

Great job mate, you done right thing, I'd use super foil on that roof. Great stuff. Scrap all your metal mate, it's worth it. Put in a pile and when you need money it's little honey pot. I collect all wire, metal, copper, brass, aluminium, stainless, iron. It's worth more than you think.

If its just for temporary then a suspended ceiling grid with ceiling tiles might be a good shout, you can get 600 x 600 led lights the size of tiles which drop in as well. By the sounds of it you are using it as a commercial space for now so doesn't really matter if it has a commercial vibe to it. Would save banging all that timber up there then boarding then painting.

Taking a shower must have been a real pleasure after that hard work 😁🚿

Well done. Great job, I would be very reluctant to do that job unless I was covered head to toe. Weils disease would have been my concern. It must have stank to high heaven :-)

I recently had to clear out a shrews nest under a basement. Got a cat a week later :-)

I’m trying to picture creating the rafter structure and nailing up a galvanized metal ceiling. Perhaps because there was a supply available.

Only thing missing on that video was Jo, giving you a spray down with the pressure washer!!
I would have insisted on that as a minimum before you came back in the house, car or anywhere near the kids!!🤣 Great job, as ever, but don't put that ceiling too low, you could board and insulate up to the noggins and just above, ceiling height at the level of the wood screwed in to the wall above the air brick. Loft space above left as before.

Not sure that I understand the need for insulation in a room which is to house your freezers. Surely all it will serve to do is keep the heat generated by the compressors inside the room, thereby reducing the efficiency of the freezers? By all means insulate the freezers themselves, but insulating the room from which the air is drawn seems to be counterproductive.

Sorry mate, I might have missed this in a previous video, is this room just going to be a cold room? Instead of putting up a wood ceiling and insulating, why not just just cold room panels like you built your old shed out of? relatively cheap and easy to fit in that sort of a space (not sure if they could span that distance?

Good content will be watching all your other vids can learn a lot 👍🏻 I’m the same face mask /protect eyes but all the rest gets in they way makes you sweat more and ends up more of a hindrance .
I get covered when doing strip out work (A bar of Dettol soap antibacterial helps, if you have any little nicks or cuts after this type of work ) Any recommendations for electric gates or have you got videos on them?

I’m not going to be knocking down that wall…… pause; today. Love it!
I just wonder, if you’re going to be filling the space with refrigeration, is insulating the space it sits in (to keep heat in) not counter productive? The amount of heat these things chuck out enabling it to escape would mean they’d wouldn’t need to work as hard? Larder principle. Having as much volume in there would also help the heat dump.

PIR insulation over the underside of the rafters screwed and screw a 100x25 counter battery horizontally and then you can fix what ever finish you want as a sloping ceiling this still keeping the height.
By screwing everything it means it’s all a easy dismantle later on if you decide to change.
