Killing fleas with salt!

This is just a test to see if the salt actually kills the fleas. As you can see it has killed most of the test fleas, who were all perfectly fine before going in, and some fleas who hopped in there all on their own. Obviously felt a bit left out :)). Oh, and it's just normal rock-salt ground in a mortise and pestle!

Update: Worked like a dream! Left it on the carpet for ten days and then hoovered it all up...haven't seen a flea since. Oh, and that's in conjunction with soapy-water-traps.

I hope this is the most painful possible death for them. Also, I wish there was a way to magnify their screams as they go down. I would pay good money to hear that.

Hello again! It kills them by cutting the sides of their bodies where their legs rub, especially when they jump. Then they bleed and dry up from the salt.
All a bit grim but does the job :))

It's amazing how well it actually works! You don't even need that much of it either. Glad to hear of it working for others!

This really works, my carpet came alive with fleas but they couldn't jump and as they came to the top of the carpet they died. I bought dollar store salt

I spread a ridiculous amount of salt over my couch and bedroom carpet. Like, I was literally laying in salt trying to get relief from a serious infestation. I went from having 5 or 6 jump on my feet and ankles to zero in one day. It's day 3 and I only spotted 2-3 today.
I spread more salt that I powdered in my bullet blender. It's working, but I think it will take a week to clear them out at this rate.

I also sprayed 2 gallons of pesticide with growth inhibitor, but the salt started working immediately.

I knew it! My husband has been arguing with me about using salt on our rugs, but about 5 years ago we had an infestation and had carpeting back then. I used salt and flea traps (dish soap in a bowl with a lamp over it to attract the fleas to jump to their death in the soapy water), and it took a few weeks, but there were no more fleas! We also had the yard professionally sprayed, but will use permethrin this time ourselves. We also washed our dogs every other day and after we noted no fleas jumping on us, we stopped the baths and used Frontline a few days later (it worked good back then, I don't think it works as well any longer).

I'm off to get a ton of salt! Thank you for confirming...can't wait to put this in my hubby's face! lol

lemon juice baths, and cedar pillowsbfor the animals to sleep on, as well as filling socks with cedar to put in between couch cushions, help deter fleas, my mother made 2 cedar pillows for her dogs to sleep on, stuffs cedar filled socks between furniture cushions, and even made a cedar pillow to keep at the foot of her bed to keep them away form the bed, and she has never had a flea bite her.

No problem! I hope it works as well for you as it did for me! Also try the Soapy Water Traps. I've done a quick vid on those too. One of the comments makes a really good suggestion of putting the water traps on something white to attract the fleas, like an old t-shirt or even a piece of paper. Remember to read the description and comments for the best results.

Good Luck!!

Hi there! No I did not need to contain my pets at all. The salt is really finely ground so pretty much all of it sinks in quite quickly until hoovered up. If you've got dogs, they may be curious for a day or two and lick their paws (they love anything salty) but after that they'll get bored of it. Just make sure they've always got access to drinking water. Cats, on the other hand, don't even seem to notice that anything has changed. They'll most likely be avoiding the carpet as much as possible.

Fleas can't scream, guys. They have no vocal chords.

Anyways

salt works wonders. I had a moderate infestation that was driving me bonkers. Due to my sensitive skin, getting bit HURTS like fuck. I actually contemplated fleeing the house and never going back. It's an apartment and I blame the people around me or the person who was there before me, since I don't have pets or romp in the woods. With this remedy, don't just cover your carpets, cover EVERYTHING. Especially couches and beds, anywhere fleas may dwell. Leave it for a week, clean up, and then here is the important part, do it AGAIN. It drives me nuts to live in a salty house, but if you do it 3 times, you'll kill all the lingerers and like me, if you're trapped in an apartment building, you'll stop any more from coming to get you. Fleas can hide for a YEAR waiting for just the right time to make your life hell. So take charge and refuse to be bullied.

Hi! Yes, any salt can be used. Make sure you crush or grind it as fne as possible though. Then all you need to do is spread it evenly. Let me know how it works out for you.

The other day I grabbed a flea between my fingers and ran it under the tap. Water boarded that sucker

I wonder if I can just spray the carpet with high concentrated salt water? I'm gonna try that...
