On Nov 5 2006, Saddam Hussein was sentenced to death following the installation of a puppet regime in Iraq as result of the U.S Invasion of Iraq.

The Kangaroo court was illegitimate and the U.S resisted attempts to transfer Saddam to the ICC where he would have faced a much more just trial.

There is a great book called "The Prisoner in His Palace" about the American soldiers tasked with monitoring Saddam during his house arrest. They ended up becoming such good friends with him that they cried while they drove him to his hanging.
