Finding your natural speaking pitch, or speech pitch, can help you keep your voice healthy throughout the day so that it is ready for when you have to sing. If you feel your voice getting tired throughout the day finding your natural speaking pitch can be really helpful for you. In this video I'm going to give you an exercise to help you find your natural speaking pitch. We are also going to look at habits that you can develop to remember to use your natural speech pitch.

My voice while speaking sounds very low, but when i'm singing sounds high, but without power, sometimes it seems like two different voices

I feel in never speak in my own pitch. In fact I feel that I don't really know my own voice. it's always too high or to low 😩
My speech therapist said I speak in falsetto in both (high or low pitch)

I was speaking a whole octave lower than my natural pitch (f3)! This almost always happens when I'm teaching guitar, especially to younger students who require more instruction. Voice ends up fried, gets better over the weekend. Never had any issue talking all day when I was working as a barman, then hanging out with friends until the early morning. So I really think that I go into this unnaturally deep voice whenever I feel like I have to seem more professional. Thank you so much for helping me realise this!

My natural voice is around F2. I guess I have a deep voice.

Wow! I’ve been through significant medical traumas over the past three years and have PTSD and other consequences as a result. I’d noticed my speaking voice was dropping lower and lower, without really understanding why. My natural speaking voice according to this exercise is 6 whole tones higher. Thank you! I’m going to play around with this.

I'm a 5'8'' woman who is fairly non-feminine, am constantly tired, and I'm pretty sensitive to high pitched noises so I always speak lower than my normal pitch, I just never really thought about it until I heard recordings of my own voice and it sounded a lot different than what I'm used to. I'm always losing my voice despite talking in a quiet tone. This has made me realize I really just need to embrace my higher pitched voice. It's just so weird, I always thought of myself as an alto since I'm tall and I've got rbf and a very laid back personality, yet I have the voice of a bubbly young teenager. For reference, my natural humming tone was about 2 full steps higher than the humming in the video coming from a mezo soprano.

Thanks! This was helpful. The note I naturally hummed feels great and put me in a very comfortable range.

Totally agree with what you're saying. I'm a basso profundo and it's quite draining on the chords trying to speak in that low voice for 14 hours a day. I used to like it but it's not economical! I've trained myself through the last few months to find my natural spoken pitch and it's changed my narration, storytelling, and just everyday communication! It's gone from inaudible and monotonous to melodic and full of energy. Thanks for the content. Looking forward to more!

Your being so authentic, warm, and spontaneous as you share REALLY helps me! I think my best speaking voice happens when I forget myself and I'm unselfconsciously engaged and connected. I'm an aspiring voice actor. Unfortunately over the years anxiety has contributed to unhealthy vocal habits and dysphonia. So while my challenge is to practice and become attuned to healthy vocal techniques and sensations across a range of emotions and emotive interactions, until they become habitual; my greater challenge is to let go and embrace (at the conscious level, I seem better when I'm unselfconscious) a new more authentic expressive range, and therefore personal identity. This is the big issue the challenge of letting go and embracing this "new natural" authentic personal identity -- Do you have any videos on this? That's why I soooo appreciated your example of authentic, warm, and connected sharing!! It reminds me, by showing me what I should be reaching for.. And yes I have now subscribed. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK 💕

Thanks for this! It confirms what I had suspected a long time.

I'm really struggling with my voice. When I was a teenager (14-15 years old) I realised how irritatingly high and childish my voice was (I heard it on the tape and was absolutely mortified) Since then I've tried to lower my voice and now it's the only way I can speak. However it is completely destroying my voice - I cannot sing at all anymore and after speaking a bit more (like 30 minutes), even my speaking voice gets raspy and starts to vanish. It's a problem not only with my friends but also since my studies require quite a lot of talking. I study several foreign languages.

When I get excited, surprised or irritated my voice rises like an octave. My family says that's about my natural voice I should speak with but I am not able to speak like that - it takes so much effort and feels weird. This saddens me and I'm afraid I can never sing again. I'm not trying to be a singer but I wish I could find and use my singing voice again - just for me, for fun - I used to sing a lot and I loved it. Also it would be nice to talk freely without damaging the voice.

I don't know what to do...should I find a vocal coach or is it too late to fix this - or is the damage permanent already? I'm 26 now.

If someone read all that - thank you. If you have any thoughts or tips, I'd appreciate a comment a lot!
