None of this is the customer's problem! They priced gouged for years and now they have to pay the consequences of their actions.

What's tough, and maybe things have changed in the last 20 years, is many people have no awareness. What they say, and even what they may think, doesn't align with what they do. When I sold cars at age 19, I was extremely knowledgeable about cars, I was extremely transparent, honest, and I didn't push the sale. However, though many claimed to appreciate this, they often would ultimately BUY from a notoriously aggressive, pushy, and outright dishonest salesperson.

I can't say exactly why that is, but from the looks of things, it seemed like it came down to people simply having no defense for sales tactics, no confidence, and no spine. I'm not going to claim I've gotten the best possible deal every time I've bought a car from a dealership, but I've certainly not let them lead me around by the collar, which seems like what happens to many.

It's all about the beginning of the process. If you're in a small town, good luck, but if you're in or around a major city where there are many competing dealerships, make a well thought out email that you send to the dealerships. Basically explain that you know what you want, you've already taken a test-drive, etc. and that you won't go there in person until they reveal out-the-door pricing. Tell them that you understand if that goes against some strange policy of the dealership, and in that case, good day. But give them a way out, explaining that you're in no rush so if anything changes and they'd like to earn your business, they can reach out to you later. Once you work out a price you let them know that you're now willing to go in person, but if there are any mystery fees that suddenly appear that haven't been discussed, you will terminate all communication with them and leave them terrible reviews on all platforms at your disposal.

In 60 years of buying cars/trucks all over the United States, I have as yet to find an honest dealership. I stand by my words that we should buy direct from the manufacturer and end the stealership!! I know that has some people worried that there would be no competition and prices would be high. Open your eyes folks, there is competition and the prices on vehicles are way too high. End the stealership!!

Making cars and trucks should be very simple. If you can't build a vehicle that is dependable and reliable you should go do something else, ! Nobody wants a car or truck that breaks down and costs lots of money to keep running. I bought a 2000 R/4 at the wrecking yard and had a rear-end clip put on the back. I ran it for about 140, 000 miles. It was my work car and I traveled a lot. All I had to do was maintain it. I changed the engine oil and filter. Also changed the transmission oil and gasket. I replaced the brakes, and spark plugs. and it ran perfectly. It saved me a lot of money. This is what most common people want something dependable that will get them where they have to go that will save them money!

Waited for one year for a F150 Lightning, when it arrived dealership wanted $15, 000 market adjustment. Happy I turned it down. Got a Toyota Tundra after 45 years of Fords.

I bought my 12' Altima in December 2011 at 23% less than MSRP and am still driving this car. I keep my cars for at least 15 years because I have to get my monies worth. A car is a depreciating liability so I try to limit my costs by taking great care of my cars and keeping them until they won't pass inspection.

Lack of consumer credit, outrageously priced junk = corporate policies that MUST change.

If something doesn't sell, try raising the price.

if they have made billions with cars sitting on lots they cannot sell, tells me that the vehicles they did sell had a gigantic profit margin. They have been robbing their customers blind!

I'll drive the car i have until the wheels fall off. I should easily get another 10 years out of it. Let the US become like Cuba.

Must be one of the scam dealerships in Brandon, Florida

Edit: @23:29 I can confirm it’s Brandon Mitsubishi in Tampa Florida

Did some further research.. the vehicle is a 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 with 67, 483 miles.

The website literally says:

“Market price: $28, 750
Brandon Mitsubishi discount: $14, 025
Our price: $14, 725”

And it’s like this for all of their preowned inventory.

The website also states there are additional fees that may be added but the site doesn’t itemize those fees anywhere.

Didn't GM do a stock buy back in mid 2000's to woo investors before it crashed. Then got a gov bailout in 2008.

It's simple the average person cannot afford a new car anymore

During the pandemic, many dealers cut back on their loaner cars inventory as would have something to sell and make some money to survive. Some brands, mainly 'luxury' ones, mandate dealers to have loaners for warranty, recall or certain maintenance work. Loaner cars was also a way for dealers to deal with slow selling models, they take the tax write off for depreciation when they sell it at a lower price, the maker gets the car 'sold', customers get a car to use so keeps them happy.

I worked in a Dealership for 1 year. I watched the victimization of people that made purchases. Stunning lack, of any form of a fair playing field, from dealership up the food chain. I will never purchase a vehicle from any car dealership again.
I left as ethics simply didn't exist.

Since when has business models of these companies turned into "we can't sell any cars, let's try raising the prices"????

Saw a Consumer Reports quality report - no surprises - Toyota and Honda at the top - all the American garbage near the bottom. That’s why I have only owned Toyotas for the last 20 years.

If they actually made products that would be as good as Japan. That would last longer and didn’t constantly break down as much as all American made vehicles do then people here would totally want to buy them.

Fords KTP makes $15k per vehicle that comes off the end of the line, 1 per minute, per line. So they can afford to pay the people more! Solid video.

I shake my head at Stellantis especially this year Jeep was ABSENT from the SEMA show in Vegas. Jeep one of the most if not most “modified” vehicles and they always had an awesome display. Kinda feel like the corporate decision makers have lost what their base is.
