Excessive rain has threatened a dam at Lake Lure, according to the National Weather Service.

At 11 a.m. Friday, Lake Lure officials told Rutherford County Emergency Management they expect water to start spilling over the Lake Lure Dam.

I don’t think these people quite understand what I dam breaking entails. This will be tragic if it does break and people don’t heed the warning

The bridge that they are showing is near Boiling Springs, NC - near the Broad River Greenway.

According to the Town of Lake Lure website, they lowered the lake level by seven feet for Hurricane Florence in 2018 in anticipation of its 15" rain forecast, and the dam performed well. It appears they only lowered it by one foot this week.
