I have not had to use a snap or flat pack. Between the arch repository and the AUR I find everything I need. I'm happy to hear that Manjaro has done it right though.

I have Manjaro on my desktop PC and fedora on my laptop. Fedora feels like Windows mostly - it's polished, it works, it's stable but it also kind of wants you to work in the way it wants. But Manjaro on my desktop...Oh man, great experience. I've been using it for 9 months now and with each release it gets better. Also their forum community is super helpful if you get stuck. I also have a bunch of Raspberry Pi 4s and Manjaro ARM is probably the best distro running on RPi4 atm. Manjaro team is doing a great job. So great that I ended up as a patron on Patreon.

Manjaro is one of the best looking distros IMO. Love the green and black theming.

Have to agree, Tom. Manjaro is certainly one distro that just keeps getting better and better... and definitely a very polished experience :)

Well, Linux Mint did a pretty good job in implementing Flatpak in mintinstall in my opinion. mintinstall explicitly mentions if it comes from Flatpak right when you are searching (you do not need to click on it and verify at the bottom where it comes from). They could add a toggle switch to enable/disable Flatpak support in mintinstall if they feel the need for it I guess.

Doesn't matter how much they try to polish and push this thing, it brings nothing for me that AppImages didn't already did. And AppImages much easier and simple to use too. I can use different versions of the same software side by side, with no dependency conflicts whatsoever, each one on its own temporary directory, you can even specify the temp directories to be in the same path as the appimage itself. Versatile, efficient and elegant. 10/10 I'm pushing it but it's true xDDD

I have used every major distro for a daily driver over the years since I left windoze in '97 picking up Red Hat 5, that being said Manjaro is the best of them ALL ever by a long shot, in my opinion!

LinuxMint and Manjaro Cinnamon are my favorite two distributions. LinuxMint is my daily driver and Manjaro Cinnamon is my 'play' test-bed. Both are EXCELLENT distro's.

I was caught between a few distros, two of which were Mint and Manjaro. I picked Mint for the same reason you did, because I didn't want the most up to date software. I also like Cinnamon, I tried KDE and I like it but Cinnamon is just easier to customize. Cinnamon isn't perfect, but its nice. I was thinking of trying Manjaro with Cinnamon, but I figured no I'll just stick with Mint. I can get the latest Kernel if I want with Mainline (but I stay at LTS), I wanted PhotoGimp so I had to figure out how to install Snaps which I did and it wasn't to bad. If I end up doing something to break Mint and can't recover from it I might try Manjaro, but so far I like Mint.

In my opinion, there is no right way to do snaps. It's not a problem of repositories, the problem is in snapd itself: it's spyware.

BTW, Yakuake is pronounced "ya-quake". The name comes from the game Quake, which introduced drop-down terminals invoked at a press of a button (typically ~). In KDE Plasma, the default button for Yakuake is F12.

Manjaro is indeed very good, I used it earlier on. great community also. The Appimagehandler enables you to easily integrate an Appimage as well with the OS. Did that with Joplin. Only one thing on the wishlist: integrate Manjaro settings into the overall settings panel ;-)

Yakuake is promounced "ja quake" and means "I am Quake" in Russian.

Pamac is sort of the perfect combination between a Synaptic-like package manager and a borderline app store like gnome-software. I just wish that it were a frontend for Pacman rather than its own thing, because Pacman is stable and fast, and it could use a gui, maybe also acting as a gui for yay.

Could you do a detailed video explaining the difference of Flatpacks, Snaps, and the regular software center for us newbies?

I hope Linux Mint follows this example. Add a couple columns in Synaptic that can be checked/unchecked.

I'd give this video 10 thumbs up! Great work.

The name Yakuake is based on Quake, since it's modeled after Quake's flap down debug console. Therefore, it's pronounced "Ya-quake" (yakwake).
