The British Army had trained in Wales and the Royal marines had trained in Dartmoor - both Cold Wet and muddy. Not that dissimilar to the Falklands.

Many Argies were grateful seeing the Brits and immediately surrendered then asked for food as they had none. They had basically been abandoned by the junta. Remember this was a POLITICAL STUNT that went completely sideways for the junta who didn't expect the Brits to fight for the island due to its extreme remoteness, but Hard Nuts Maggie proved the Brits were a lot tougher than they expected. The Argie Navy effectively ceased to exist as a threat after the Belgrano, which showed the junta that war was not some political bread and circuses for their benefit. Interesting history to this war and worth a deep dive into.

I trained with the Brit’s and they are tough, good, well equipped and very disciplined. They are a great ally.

I met a British soldier who was in the Falklands war in Australia in 2012. He was with his wife. He didn't look to happy when he left the table to get the beers. His wife told me that he still suffers from PTSD. All those years later. Sad.

Its because the British Army had Tacti-mustaces that made the British Army Tacti-cool and Elite

British are best soldier indeed. Infantry is best of best. From Battle of Indian subcontinent to battle of Falkland. They prove themselves best army in the world. ❤ Despite from all odds you're going to win.

I was there (RN). I’d like to get to the point. All the talk of Rivalry etc and who was better than who doesn’t make the Main and most important factors. The Most Important thing of all was Team work and Everyone supporting each other and no matter what regiment/service etc.
That’s why we Won. God Bless the Heroes still there.
It might have been 1982 but it still hurts as I lost Great Comrades that were truly like family to me. Rest in Peace

Argentina's dictators had political problems at home, so decided a diversionary military adventure would distract the Argentine people, but they didn't take Mrs. Thatcher into account.

I don't know why people always downplay the use of conscripts. The UK won two world wars using conscripts. Conscripts by themselves are not a bad thing. What matters is how the conscripts are trained, led, and supplied that makes the difference.

Glad you got carriers again after that hiatus. A window of opportunity for Argentina to give it another go has now closed.

Even the Royal Army Pay Corps fixed bayonets and cleared trenches, soldier first tradesman second is the British Army mantra

Their discipline, unit cohesion, adaptability, training and skills were of the highest quality.
Beyond that was their purpose, motivation and drive to achieve an important objective. Too many soldiers fail because either they don’t understand what they are fighting for or the consequences of failure.

The Falklands are similar to the British isles in terms of weather, they were used to the climate.

The British were facing conscripts due to politics. The Argentinian junta had made no secret of the military Governments intention to invade surrounding countries in South America. The Chilean government moved large numbers of troops to the Argentinian border, which the Argentinians had to respond to by moving its full-time/ professional soldiers to oppose. This left only conscripts for the Falklands War. That the Chileans were playing a wider 'remove the Argentinian junta' game is shown by the fact that the British had ('unofficial') access to radar facilities on the Chilean mainland which played an important part in forewarning the British of Argentinian air attack.

Us Brits could write a library about being underestimated, others still do it to this day
