The Tragic Story of Project Zomboid's Main Menu

Project Zomboid is an open-world isometric survival horror video game in development by British and Canadian independent developer The Indie Stone. The game is set in a post-apocalyptic, zombie-infested world where the player is challenged to survive for as long as possible before inevitably dying.

'Til Death Us Do Part was a story included in Project Zomboid as its own game mode. It served as the tutorial to introduce new players to the basic concepts of Project Zomboid, like base fortification, scavenging, and fending off hostile undead and survivors.

In 2013, 'Til Death Us Do Part was removed from the game, along with NPC survivors, with the release of version RC 2.9, due to NPCs being far too buggy. The Indie Stone did not abandon the story and have stated they still have big plans for NPCs and the story of Bob and Kate.

I never notice that during the lightning strike he was eating Kate! Thank you for adding yet another layer of depth to this game.

Sad part is that Bob canonically doesn't leave kate he stays with her until they get infected we can see them in one of the maps.

I never realized he was eating her corpse, I always assumed he was just cradling her in her final moments, which I assume must’ve been their intention with the lightning strike showing the truth

Bob and Kate when a random fully equipped and experienced survivor they’ve never seen barges through their door only 6 days in: “come with me if you want to live.”

Kate is turned. Meaning, she was eaten alive by Bob.

How could this happen?
Bob leaves her if he is bitten. He is a clever guy who can protect his wife even from himself.

One possibility I can think of is, that Kate welcomed Bob.
Despite knowing Bob outside was not Bob anymore, she wanted to stay with him.

I like to think that one day some level of a happy ending will be had but that’ll probably only happen if they add an age system and you can die of old age.

oh god, i always thought that when the lightning strikes you see Kates arm reaching for bobs neck. Looking closer now it's so gruesome seeing that that's just flesh being ripped from his teeth.

That main menu still terrifies me... The first time I played was at night alone... And missed that the first time... When I eventually got too stressed and opt out and came back I saw the light illuminate them and damn... I thought he is just mourning goddamn...
