CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Ethan (John Wayne) and the rangers engage in a shootout with Scar (Henry Brandon) and his tribe.

FILM DESCRIPTION:
John Wayne plays Ethan Edwards, a former Confederate soldier who returns to his brother Aaron's frontier cabin three years after the end of the Civil War. Ethan still has his rebel uniform and weapons, a large stash of Yankee gold, and no explanations as to where he's been since Lee's surrender. A loner not comfortable in the bosom of his family, Ethan also harbors a bitter hatred of Indians (though he knows their lore and language well) and trusts no one but himself. Ethan and Martin Pawley (Jeffrey Hunter), Aaron's adopted son, join a makeshift band of Texas Rangers fending off an assault by renegade Comanches. Before they can run off the Indians, several homes are attacked, and Ethan returns to discover his brother and sister-in-law dead and their two daughters kidnapped. While they soon learn that one of the girls is dead, the other, Debbie, is still alive, and with obsessive determination, Ethan and Martin spend the next five years in a relentless search for Debbie -

“Watch it it’s loaded” so casual yet so badass and sooo John Wayne

Duke started the fight with a carbine, but at the end he had a rifle. Carbine has the barrel band and the rifle has a foreend cap

I just love how John Wayne says "watch it it's loaded" he sounds so badass!

Anyone else notice that Ethan starts out the scene with a different rifle than the one he finishes with? The first is an 1892 carbine with a barrel band and the next shots show him with an 1892 short rifle with a forend cap. Of course, if this is "Texas, 1868" like the movie proclaims in the beginning, none of the weapons used in this scene would have even existed. They should have cap and ball revolvers and 1860 Henry/1866 Winchester rifles (and even that is assuming they would have had access to newly designed weapons right away). Despite the anachronisms, though, this scene is classic!

Reverend Clayton was pure comedy throughout. When his butt got hurt in the end :)

The Comanches NEVER engaged in massive, conventional frontal assaults.
Much like the Apaches, they used small unit hit-and-run guerrilla style tactics.

Great scene. I'm SURE the Comanches classic strategy was to ride into a river and then stand around while the invaders picked them off. Only in Hollyweird.

Look at this scene at 1:53, you see Ethan enjoying killing the natives as a kid playing with his friends with water guns, his eyes when he got the aim too.

Got a list on a letterboxd named "hopeless", a film who sure should be there would be 'the searchers'

Clear picture for 1956.
That was 65 years ago.

Wikipedia entry says this is set in 1868. Shouldn't their revolvers be cap and ball rather than the later single action (or are those double action) revolvers that they appear to be sporting?
