My very favorite western of all time. John Wayne should have gotten an academy award for his roll.

I will have to see this movie. My favorite Western is Eastwood's Josey Wales so I doubt a 50's drama can really compete with a 70's one but....the visual excerpt of this movie are just stunning and worth a look from that standpoint t alone.

This was a great movie. Notice that Ken Curtis was also in the cast? He'd become Festus in the TV series Gunsmoke. He also appeared in several John Ford/John Wayne films! And Scar (Henry Brandon), one of his first, maybe his very first role was as mean old Mr. Barnaby in Babes In Toyland (AKA March of the Wooden Soldiers) with Laurel & Hardy? Oh, and did you know that Oliver Hardy's father was a Sergeant in the 16th Georgia Infantry during the Civil War? He was wounded at Antietam in 1862 and his son Norville was born a few decades after the war and changed his name to Oliver, to honor his dad? Cool trivia!

Esta es una de las peliculas favoritas de western que me gustan junto con SHALAKO, LA ULTIMA AVENTURA DE CUSTER, OCASO DE LOS CHEYENNES, lo malo es que no estan en you tube para verlas desde CHILE.

Colossal movie indeed, much better than the book on which it was based.

I consider this the best western ever made unless unless you include The Last of the Mohicans as a western.

Can anyone explain to me why they say Comanch instead of Comanche except when the girl reads Martins letter?

It may have been an entertaining movie, but it doesn't show a true depiction of the brutal Commanche, who would not have been snuck up on by white soldiers. Also, the Commanche they were trading with were obviously Navajo, but since the movie was shot in Navajo county, I guess that would be expected. Unfortunately, the movie, which I enjoyed, was shot before the movies tried to be authentic.
