8800XT it is (currently on a 2070 Super). I'M not touching anything nVidia due to their VRAM sandbagging, and I want something with proper Linux support that isn't a pain in the ass.

Doesn't feel anything like a "buyer's market" over here in Europe. More like the opposite. If you want a used 4070 Ti, be prepared to cough up at least 600€ (US $650 / AUS $990). And no, that won't be a high-end model with a good cooling solution. Those might cost 700€ used.

Everyone here is so fed up with Nvidia's pricing that the used market is being bought dry, and people selling can ask almost any price so long as it's slightly below MSRP. It's been like this for nearly three years and counting, and I don't see it stopping anytime soon.

For reference, I sold an old GTX 1060 6GB in March this year. It fetched 110€. Let that sink in for a moment.

Today I learned that Australia is in Asia.

A few people recently said to me that they picked up 6950XTs for ~$359. I paid $630 for mine, and I would again- it's a 4K monster! I would suggest a 6800XT, 6900XT, or 6950XT to anyone looking to buy a card right now.

"You are in AUSTRALIA which is in ASIA." Spoken like a true American.

3:19 for desktops only. Mid-range laptops are terrible right now. Nvidia made sure of it. Only overpriced high-end is good there.

24 years of using nvidia gpu's, until two weeks ago when I got a 7900 xt for just over £600, nice boost over my previous 3070 card & in some titles ray tracing is giving me more fps because this card has enough vram to actually use it!

I've finally had enough of nvidia & their pricing & being tight arse with vram amounts on their 70 & 80 class cards!

Never did I think in a million years that I'd ever switch to amd for gpu's but I'm happy with my purchase, the adrenalin software took a little bit of getting used to but now I like it over the nvidia control panel, never did use the nvidia app so I can't compare it against that.

1080ti is still a beast, but I really crave for an upgrade to Ray tracing and 4k. Hope AMD can bring it next year. Nvidia can go continue sucking up on AI's genitals

No point in asking buy now or wait for 5090, the kind of people who want/can afford one will buy, maybe even at the cost of selling their 4090. And I would be one of them just so I can forget about having to follow the GPU hardware scene for the next 5 years without worrying but I know nvidia is really taking the pss out of us with their pricing so I'm not taking part.

RDNA4 is a more relevant question and I'm one of those on the fence but I'm pretty sure AMD is gonna screw us over in some way or another. They will slot them in as replacement when previous gen models dry up and it will be great margin for them but same dumb price/perf for us as last 2 gens I'm betting. They already managed to do it with 7800X3D this time around.

Personally I always have 'plan B' ready, which is, play any of the hundreds of older games that don't need newer GPUs until they stop joking with us. Most modern games coming out are epic fails anyway so theres way less fomo'ing to do about it than before.

Grabbed a 7800X3D back when it was still cheap at the start of 2024, 4070ti super both new and couldn't be happier. This rig will easily last me until like the 70/80 series at 1440p and the price was fair too.

Unfortunately, I’m one of those people already at mid-range and looking to upgrade, but I won’t pay bend-over prices. There are no options for me, used or new.

I decided 2 years ago that I was going to buy a new high-end GPU to replace my 6800 XT. I had $800 in-hand, mentally preparing myself to pay such a large amount of money for a graphics card. Then NVIDIA showed us the RTX 4080, but they priced it at $1, 200, and expected me to hand over my $800 for a 4070 Ti with 12 GB VRAM and only 20% better performance than my 6800 XT. I’m still waiting, and from the 5080 pricing rumors, it sounds like I’m going to keep on waiting. Everyone says NVIDIA is greedy, but they had $800 guaranteed from me on day one, and they chose to get $0 for 2 years and counting. That’s not greedy, that’s stupid.

I'm hoping the 5090 is as good as it sounds. Too bad AMD isn't making high end next gen gpu's anymore 😢

I play build a new PC next spring, around April or May. Prices are usually a bit better in spring, as most build theirs in autuum/winter. I can wait to see what RTX5000 or RX8000 can. If AMD fixes their idle power consumption, it is RX8000. Here in germany with the high energy prices, that is a concern to me.

I might finally jump to PC gaming if the 8800 XT it's at $499 and around the 4080 as the rumors say

MSRP on the 4090, according to Google, is $1, 600. I can’t find a 4090 less than $2, 000. I may as well just wait for the 50 series since everyone is selling 4090’s at $2, 200-$6, 000….
