Watch the EXPLOSIVE release trailer for the Gibson Custom Shop Kirk Hammett 1979 Flying V signature guitar.

Do you know what the albums Kill ‘Em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, ...And Justice for All, and The Black Album all have in common? In addition to being among the greatest albums in metal, ALL of these albums featured Kirk Hammett‘s 1979 Gibson Flying V. This particular Flying V was Kirk’s first Gibson, and he still plays it to this day. The Gibson Custom Shop is excited to announce that we have partnered with Kirk to recreate one of the most important heavy metal guitars of all time, his 1979 Flying V.

Only 200 of these special guitars were hand-made by the expert luthiers of the Gibson Custom Shop in Nashville, Tennessee, and artfully aged to match the original by the Murphy Lab. The included Certificate of Authenticity photo is signed by Kirk Hammett himself.

Featuring a 1-piece Mahogany body, finished in Murphy Lab Aged Nitrocellulose Lacquer, Kirk Hammett V Profile made from 3-piece Mahogany with Volute with 22 medium frets and perloid dot inlays placed up a 1-piece Indian Rosewood fingerboard, the guitar is as resonant as it is comfortable to play. With two T-Type Humbucking pickups with 2 Volume, Master Tone; CTS potentiometers, you get all the aggression you ended form these powerful pickups with the incremental volume and tone changes you need. This Gibson Kirk Hammett signature Flying V is a performer's guitar ready for the stage.

Maybe a recreated Hetfield’s Gibson explorer ‘84 awaits us soon?

I naively went to the link to buy it. I was willing to spend 6-8 grand for it. It is 15k. I’m crazy but not STUPID 🤘😂🤘

Keeping the prices realistic as always huh Gibson?

Dear Gibson,
We need '84 Explorers and these V's in both Gibson and Epiphone models. The OG 2012 Kirk V was $3, 600... that was pretty sweet but we need some affordable versions. 😂
That is all.

15k for a V? Plain stupidity. Hammet fan or not that’s ridicoulous.

For a mere $15k, you too can play a replica of a vintage guitar that routinely sells for less than a third of the price!

Beautiful guitar, only thing is the price is a LOT. But It was made by expert luthiers so it must sound and play well!

The V is so underrated, I have a PAF in my neck and a JB in the bridge. Sounds amazing for both clean and high gain stuff.

They'll be sold out and available on reverb for triple the price in no time at all 😊

No average person can ever afford this and the Greeny and anymore signatures to come.

They did a run of this exact guitar back in 2012 or so and they were stupid expensive then and they're gonna be stupid expensive now. None the less this is my favorite Kirk Hammett guitar and I was hoping they'd do another run of them. Awesome. I'll never be able to afford one though. Do an Epiphone version please!

Buying that ‘Greeny’ Les Paul really helped Kirk’s brand!

I appreciate a nice relic job as much as the next, but I'm not spending 16K on a cracked pickguard and some loose ducttape on the back.
It actually saddens me that there are people willing to pay this for any guitar. This kind of stuff is exactly why prices have gone through the roof the past few years. But no guitar is worth 16K I don't care if Kirk himself had sex with it or whatever floats a collectors boat...

HAHA! 15 FUCKING GRAND! You can get an actual 79V for half that! Or get the last version that at least comes with the Pickups he settled on. I mean seriously, what is with Gibson going out of their way to not use aftermarket pickups.

I would think the average guitar player who wants a Gibson would want a regular Gibson USA model to be on par with the originals, e.g., a 1959 Les Paul Standard being much the same as it was then with regard to quality, playability and tone etc.

But Gibson are like "here's a '59 Gibson USA model for the Plebs, but if you want the real deal reissue, you have to pay 3x for Custom Shop". That makes regular Gibson USA stuff actually lesser, so folks will wonder if their Gibson USA model really is 'good enough', e.g., I wonder how much better a custom shop '61 SG Standard would be compared to my Original Series one.

A Les Paul Standard or Custom was just Gibson. It was Gibson's best work, not its mid-range product. The custom shop did not even exist, and when it got going, it was just for special custom ordered guitars etc.

Sure, it makes Gibson money doing all this up charging for gourmet products, but it makes Gibson enemies too. I am not one of them, but I understand why folks rag on Gibson (some of it is the online hate train, but some is merited).

M2M is what the custom shop should be primarily, I guess, i.e., having Gibson build a custom spec guitar. I am all good with special products like this for fans, but only as long as regular Gibson USA stuff is not relegated to a second or third tier product (Custom Shop devalues the Gibson USA brand -- to a lesser extent, but similar to how Epiphone was devalued by becoming the cut-price import brand when it was originally a top US brand).

Long story short. Gibson should get back to just being Gibson and ditch the practice of having products leagues above the Gibson USA product segment. The Gibson USA stuff should not be something that is not Gibson's best work.
