Oscar nominee Denis Villeneuve (“Arrival,” “Blade Runner 2049”) directs Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures’ “Dune,” the big-screen adaptation of Frank Herbert’s seminal bestseller of the same name.

A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, “Dune” tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive.

The film stars Oscar nominee Timothée Chalamet (“Call Me by Your Name,” “Little Women”), Rebecca Ferguson (“Stephen King’s Doctor Sleep,” “Mission: Impossible – Fallout”), Oscar Isaac (the “Star Wars” franchise) Oscar nominee Josh Brolin (“Milk,” “Avengers: Infinity War”), Stellan Skarsgård (HBO’s “Chernobyl,” “Avengers: Age of Ultron”), Dave Bautista (the “Guardians of the Galaxy” films, “Avengers: Endgame”), Stephen McKinley Henderson (“Fences,” “Lady Bird”), Zendaya (“Spider-Man: Homecoming,” HBO’s “Euphoria”), Chang Chen (“Mr. Long,” “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”), David Dastmalchian (“Blade Runner 2049,” “The Dark Knight”), Sharon Duncan-Brewster (“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” Netflix’s “Sex Education”), with Oscar nominee Charlotte Rampling (“45 Years,” “Assassin’s Creed”), with Jason Momoa (“Aquaman,” HBO’s “Game of Thrones”), and Oscar winner Javier Bardem (“No Country for Old Men,” “Skyfall”).

Villeneuve directed “Dune” from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jon Spaihts and Eric Roth based on the novel of the same name written by Frank Herbert. Villeneuve also produced the film with Mary Parent, Cale Boyter and Joe Caracciolo, Jr. The executive producers are Tanya Lapointe, Joshua Grode, Herbert W. Gains, Jon Spaihts, Thomas Tull, Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt and Kim Herbert.

Behind the scenes, Villeneuve reteamed with two-time Oscar-nominated production designer Patrice Vermette (“Arrival,” “Sicario,” “The Young Victoria”), two-time Oscar-nominated editor Joe Walker (“Blade Runner 2049,” “Arrival,” “12 Years a Slave”), two-time Oscar-winning visual effects supervisor Paul Lambert (“First Man,” “Blade Runner 2049”), and Oscar-winning special effects supervisor Gerd Nefzer (“Blade Runner 2049”). He also collaborated for the first time with Oscar-nominated director of photography Greig Fraser (“Lion,” “Zero Dark Thirty,” “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”); three-time Oscar-nominated costume designer Jacqueline West (“The Revenant,” “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” “Quills”) and co-costume designer Bob Morgan; and stunt coordinator Tom Struthers (“The Dark Knight” trilogy, “Inception”). Oscar-winning and multiple Oscar-nominated composer Hans Zimmer (“Blade Runner 2049,” “Inception,” “Gladiator,” “The Lion King”) is creating the score.

I saw this opening night in a packed theatre. Everyone was chatting and that opening phrase shocked the audience into submission for the rest of the film. It was amazing

I’ve seen this movie four times and that intro still gives me goosebumps every time. Best movie experience I’ve had in a while.

I love the small subtle details here
"Who will our next opressor be?" And the next scene shows Paul

You could literally feel your chest pouding because of the sound in the theater, watching this preview through small screen doesn't do justice on how well this film was made.

1:18 That shot has to be one of my favourites in any film, it looks like something straight out of concept art. Seeing that for the first time on the big screen made me instantly realize that this would be great.

Did anyone else notice how the transitions between scenes in these 10 minutes are really well done? As soon as a subject is spoken of Denis shows them, and the subject is always related to the previous one. Paul thinks about Chani - Fremen - Spice - Imperium and guild - Herald of the change. Such a smart move to make when adapting a rich story like Dune.

I am deeply impressed by the Herald. Only 3 minutes role but I feel in his performance such splendor and imperial power! Bravo for the actor!

I got goosebumps during the scene of coming out from under the sand! There is no movie entry like this one exactly.

Anyone ever notice how the music mimics a heartbeat increasing in speed? Really helps the tension of this opening especially when you see it in IMAX.

That transition of Paul looking up at the Ship emerging from the clouds is beautiful

Starting the film with the message about dreams before the studio logos come up is such a flex

Seeing this in IMAX was probably the most perfect experience I’ve ever had in a theater. The crowd was dead silent. You could tell that the entire audience was laser-focused on the film because of how unbelievably outstanding the sound design, score, and visuals were for this film, and how seeing it in the IMAX format made it a practically spiritual experience. When I watched it for the second time on HBO max, I cranked my soundbar volume all the way up and turned all the lights off. I just can’t watch this movie without the maximum settings of whatever it’s being displayed on. I love this movie so much.

Watching this in IMAX was like a psychedelic experience. The film grips you and doesn't let go, from the very first second with its message of dreams all the way to the end. It drags you into deep, dark places without the refuge of lightness typical in Hollywood films. I felt like I left my body and when the movie ended I came back and had a hard time processing my feelings and what it meant, but I knew it was deep and profound. It was also, of course, incredibly imaginative and beautiful visually.

Every single thing in this opening is a setup that gets a payoff in Part Two - Chani's narration, Leto's ring, Paul & Jessica, everything. Brilliantly structured by Villeneuve

After seeing this at the cinema, watching this opening here has let me appreciate a lot more of the details. Stuff like the fact the Emperor's herald has a ship shaped like the glowglobes they use for light just seems to be a nice little insight as to how they see themselves, and that closeup of Leto's ring as a badge of office is a good way of letting us know its importance without beating us around the head with dialogue.

One of the best opening scenes of all time.

The way the film is introduced by Hans Zimmer’s radical sound design... puts you in another world instantly.
