This might work in the UK where people have rights in the workplace. In the US there are none, except in two states. Employers know this and they take advantage of it. What they want to do is reduce you to a quivering fearful mess so that they can be the star at your expense. They'll undermine, cajole, humilate, sabotage, and bully and then they go, oh well, so and so has got to go. Many bring their personal agendas into work and fuck over someone else for fun. Guess who gets the corner office!

I sure hope this applies to conflict in the United States. It might not you know. People here have the nerve to talk about German-Chinese being hungry for power. It makes my mom's statement more true than ever; she always used to say 'When you point a finger at someone there are three pointing back at yourself.'
They sure as shinola had plenty of it at the BOTTOM of the ladder. I've never been anywhere near the top. People in the bottom of the barrel play all kinds of manipulative games and some would flat-out lie on you. Just lie like a gd Persian rug.
