Can you actually use Linux as a daily driver?

Can you actually use Linux on a daily basis? With no dual-booting? What about muh Photoshop? Muh apps? Or maybe you think that Linux is just for anime-watching basement dwelling neckbeards? It's true. But it can also be for you, and let me show you how you can use it on a full-time basis, while still keeping a normal social life...

I've been using Linux as my main OS since the late 90s... Not sure why this debate is even still a thing. Linux his a solid and proven OS, has been for years.

Yeahh, I have been using Linux for the past 14 years. I work on mechanical engineering, sound, 3d design, graphic design, illustration, coding on linux for serious projects. I had a crunchyroll account for a year or so and also watched anime while rendering 3d animations.

Moved to Linux as a daily driver back in 2014 or 2015, never regretted it. As a university student, sometimes windows-only programs were a must. But having a windows virtual machine solves all the issues when needed. This setup worked perfectly well for me even on my kinda average or below average laptop.

My windows machine shows blue screen and I don’t wanna fix it, I am totally fine now with my Manjaro Gnome setup. I need everything what I need for my web development adventures

I have Mac OS, Windows, Chrome OS and Ubuntu. And I use Ubuntu most of the time. Next is Chrome OS. Realized I didn't need so much because most of the time I do stuff in a browser. Most people don't do much except email and social media. But they have overpowered devices for stuff like that.

Watched this as deciding whether my next machine should be Windows 11 or Fedora/Centos. Not a gamer or developer. Will be supporting apps running on RHEL servers at work. I do need Excel. Any advice anyone?

I for one am always amused when people say that they don’t have time to play around on their computer their grownups etc. it’s really just people using a poorly disguised excuse as to why they don’t do something I’ve had Ubuntu and arch on my computers and tbh I am not really even configuring them that much I just play games and surf the web on both computers quite a bit but I am starting to prefer the tui though I find it cool. But the thing is I can barely remember some commands because I don’t really use them much at all. I’m not the most technical user but really it’s not a bad experience.

Hi! Please, can you make video, how you optimize your battery life on Linux laptops? Because, on Windows I'm getting around 5 hours in battery life. But in Linux my laptop may work only 1.5 hours around (I'm using Ubuntu).

Also, now some high end Windows laptops or Macs able to work whole day (12+ hours), so Linux now cant compete in terms of battery life with Windows/Macs?

What status bar are you using in this video?

imo it depends.

Gaming? Depends on games. VR is a hard no, especially if you have a headset that doesn't use steamvr as its main "home". Half my games and none of my VR games work on linux.

Productivity? Yes.

Laziness level: If you're lazy, don't even bother if you are gaming or doing anything more complex than web browsing and productivity. Linux rarely "just works" when it comes to such things.

I'm dual booting linux mint and windows 10 because I simply don't have the time to learn all this shit. When I get home from work, I just want to hop into VR or a game and not have to constantly fuck around with my pc. It needs to "just work" for me. My spare time is a finite resource and I'd rather be using it for entertainment.

Yes i can too :D ... I use Linux again for last 6 Month, bevor i used Windows for 4 Years and before that i started using Linux in 2009 with Kubuntu 9.04. I love Linux and i use it for work and private stuff. It simple works. you have to change some workflow but in 2020 there are many alternativ software products to do qualitiy work in linux.

6 years a full time linux user and 0 regrets.

Only time I switch to windows is when I want to play a game. I could make my games work on linux but I don't want to mix my work and game setup.

I could play hipster linux stereotype bingo with this video and win 5 different ways...

Stating how long you've been on Linux is irrelevant to the topic and in fact demonstrates more why most people still aren't using Linux, because they grew up using windows and spent most of their work life on it. Having to re-learn a new operating system is both unnecessary and a waste of time if your current os does the job fine.

Of course you're a coder. Your response is irrelevant to the people who do work that doesn't involve web/app coding where most of the work doesn't involve fiddling on a computer but getting on with the other things that depend on an os that is standardized for most work places.

Linux is an app developer's os. It's good for that field. If you make a video about "if Linux is a good os as a daily driver" be honest and just say "it depends on what it is you do". People will appreciate it more.

Sincerely, A linux user.
