there is a program called parabolic that is made for GNOME and uses YT-DLP and downloads the highest quality as possible as well.

Newpipe and Freetube will also allow to download audio only or video only or both. I'm few years out of scope, but there were gui apps to merge video or audio files without re encoding. Is there no way to store captured stream on SSD?

I'm using the Tartube from AUR with Classic Mode tab. It can save you some time.

So you're using that tool to download instead of the default download option in YTStudio so you can be more specific about file type you get for the download?

Have you ever used shutter encoder before? It allows you to change file formats in a gui and much more. It can even download videos. I use you to change video files into .mov to use on davinci resolve.
