Absolutely 💯 the Waves Pultec is noisy when you boost high-end. The UAD Pultec is smooth with less processing noise in the high-end.

Love the in depth discussions about gear man! Try using the SSL-E or G console from waves to boost 8k. Works even better. The sheen it gives is clean and unbeating imho.

Waves makes a lot of fantastic plugins that I still use often - RVox, RBass, MV2, Doubler, S1, L1 and L2, that Berzerk Distortion is crazy - but their analog emulations are just not on par with UAD. They are still useful in certain contexts but for analog depth, soundstage and smooth high end, you’ll need other tools in the kit.

Slate is op too. High and low frequencies are both great to boost but then attenuate just a little.

When I opened my studio, I went crazy on the bundles, strategically. One thing I realized was, not all clones are the same, you have to A & B them to know the true differences.

I use the waves, UAD and Slate pultecs. I feel like the waves pultec does a better job at sucking out low mids with the atten knob than the others. I like being able to turn off the tube with Slate, and I loveeee the UAD pultec low pass, and high pass filters

I dont agree. UAD and waves have different gain values. For example, if you boost 5db in UAD, you need to increase 6db in waves to get the same value. And the knob sensitivity of the waves feels dull, that's the problem. JJP did a great emulation, it's just a different flavor

Woah, that's interesting, I've had them side by side and chose the waves over the uad. But maybe I'll have to go back and do a comparison again. But I also have a feeling that they handle harmonics maybe a little differently. Joe, it might change per the source material

Wait until these guys try a real one. I handmade my Pultec from a kit. That 10k boost is pure magic on vocals. 😌
