I've been using only the first technique which was dipping and boosting 100 to 150 Hz but after seeing another 2 EQs for other Hz ranges...my eyes are opened now...tysm

I’ll usually run multiple EQs. I’ll have one doing dips and cuts and problem areas that stick out or are to harsh or just unpleasant to listen to. And then I’ll add another eq and do overall tone shaping with broad strokes. Also EQ before compression!

The best EQ is the microphone position.
I gave a recording a did for mixing to CLA and he didn’t touched the lead vocal, no EQ, no Comp for a violin, double bass, piano and vocal track.
When I asked why he didn’t touched the vocal he replied my recording was perfect and didn’t need a single treatment….
A good equalization is a good recording, end of story….
Since decades the recording engineers choses how to making EQ with the microphone position and I was lucky to learn with the best about that years ago
