Tip: when installing a countertop between the two walls when at least one is drywall. First cut the countertop a quarter inch too big. Then take a scrap of the wood and scribe on the drywall the top and front of your counter. Then Cut the drywall on the line so the counter will slide into the wall. No need for template or perfectly cut wood.

Did you end up flushing the maple counter to the wall or is there a purpose for the overhang?

I could be wrong, but I thought the center panel on cupboard doors was usually not glued to allow for expansion and contraction.
