The huge amount of empty space in the millennial skit so they can crop it for TikTok was a nice touch. Never stop carrying the thing.

Meanwhile, Gen X (shaking head): Kids these days. Can’t even do their own taxes. Back in my day, we had to WALK to the post office to mail ‘em. No click on this, click on that!

"Saturn devouring his taxes", I say, laughing after having taken 480mg of Ambien and drinking a jagerbomb 🎉

YouTube recommended the video “Why Megamind 2 is a Cinematic Masterpiece” at the end and I sat there for a full 30 seconds thinking it was part of the video

I just recently read David Foster Wallace's essay on television and despite it being from the early 90s, so much of it still resonated today with his descriptions of the blending of entertainment and advertisement. We are now at the point where the majority of our entertainment comes from content creators where there is no longer even a line between the two. Even something as simple as cute puppy videos is simultaneously an advertisement for Chewy. Even the act of commenting has become commodified as para social relationships drive viewers to get the good brain chemicals from likes and hearts. It becomes its own addiction that sucks away our attention from the thing we actually enjoy and have to do. Like my taxes, I know I can procrastinate until the last minute and still get them done easy with H&R Block!

It's that post post-modern decentralised self-referential meta comedy and injokes that makes man carrying thing so post-pre-relatable to both the modern and future gen z and millennials

I literally did my taxes the day my employer gave me my W2. I did my taxes so early, the tax software said “we filed your federal, but your state doesn’t allow you to file this early. Please log in again in a month and we will help you finish filing state.”

I am so much better than everyone, including me. I’m better than me.

Every generation has a youthful "anti comedy/random" phase of popular humor. It's part of the boundary pushing and self-importance of youth. But it never lasts forever. Anti-comedy is visible in pop culture going back to '60s, if not earlier.

Immediately sent this to my mom who owns an H&R Block franchise and my wife who is a tax specialist in a major accounting firm. Successfully collected entire family's laugh react in the group chat. Thanks, Man.
